Does anyone know how we pay for items in Cozumel or Grand Cayman? Do we pay in pesos or US dollars? Can we just use our credit cards? Also, do these stores ship items home? Has anyone bartered or bargained down prices? Any advice or info? Thanks! :wave2:

When we went on our Western last summer we paid good old fashion American cash or credit card and did not have a problem any where. As for the rest of the questions you had, I have no clue.

When we were in Cozumel in March (land vacation, not cruising) they would accept pesos and dollars. In the main square are a number of shops and they all would "negotiate" the price. If you go to the main square, make sure you check out the sidewalk artists. They do amazing pictures using spray paint for $10.00. We picked up several for gifts back home.

They all accept US currency, but some will give you back pesos for change. One of those little credit card sized calculators will really assist in determining if you've received the correct change in pesos. ;)

We used only U.S. dollars or credit cards in both Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

:sunny: In Cozumel, I was un nerved buy the jewelry stores with no prices on anything. My Mom :wizard: amazed me with her bargaining savvy. She went home with a white gold, opal & diamond ring. A few stores down, a pair of opal ear rings. She would ask "How much?" They would quote a high price. She would say no. A few minutes later they would come back with a lower price. She said no. They would go back & forth. Finally agreeing on a price my Mom looked in her wallet."I don't have that much money" They would say "How much do you have?" They would take less money still. She left very happy shopper ;) Cash worked just fine.

When we cruise my husband always buys me a nice piece of jewelry. Were there a lot of nice jewerly stores in Cozumel?

Looking for jewelry...Grand Cayman is the place! Almost every store is a jewelry store. Know your jewelry though. There are some very nice, reputable places and some sleezier ones. You can tell by looking at them, believe me! Prices are great!
Enjoy!

GUess I better start thinking about what I want to look for while I am down there! I really would like something unique, but I WOULDN'T turn down a piece of jewlery! :rotfl: I also learned to check out where exactly it was made. I would hate to go to Cayman or Cozumel thinking I just bought a hand-made item and when I get back on the ship find a tag that said "Made in China"! :guilty: That would not be cool! :cool1: Thanks for all the good input! Happy Sailing! Karen
