Are you able to pay the rest of your balance with cash when you check-in at a Disney resort hotel?

I am beginning to feel like a broken record, but having just returned from a trip to Europe where we lost $7,000 in Traveler's Checks all I can say is WHY do you want to carry that much cash? If we had lost the cash the trip for 8 girls would have been ruined. Please consider, traveler's checks or one of those new traveler's funds cards...

Thanks Safetymon - that's great!! :teeth:

CarolA - sorry to make you feel like a broken record but I was asking this question on behalf of my guests - We are getting married at Disney next month and even though we have explained that travellers cheques / VISA would be the safest /easiest solution some of them still want to pay their room with cash - other than advising them, which I already have, I can't make them do it the way I am doing it - thanks for the advice anyway :)

I can so relate to the cash thing. For years, my in-laws, who travel extensively, used nothing but cash. To make it worse, my father-in-law always kept the cash in the bank envelopes and peeled off what he needed in full view of everyone. They didn't believe in ATMs or credit cards. They just "didn't trust" anything but cash.

They have finally seen the light and got an ATM card a few years ago. And they realized that with all their traveling (they are gone more often than they are home), they can earn a ton of bonus points with a credit card. But this has only been in the past three years.

And these people don't have any money problems - they pay off the bills every month. It's just the way of thinking for some people.

I know, but I did read an article in a travel magazine once about a woman who landed at the airport in Paris and before she left the airport ALL her cash was stolen... talk about a ruined vacation.

The Traveler's Checks were probably stolen at the airport also, but at least we could get them back. (And it's not near as easy as it looks on TV!)

Just remember if you are getting a package from DW example: room/tickets/dining plan you will have to pay the balance 45 days before your arrival date.

Okay, granted it's been a lonnng time since this happened - but I once lost all my Travelers Cheques in Nashville (yes lost, not stolen). I walked down to a nearby AmEx office and got them replaced reasonably quickly. Of course, I had the numbers in a different location than the cheques and all :)
Anyway, about ten years later I got a new $20 Travelers Cheque in the mail; apparently, I'd lost them IN the hotel, which was eventually torn down, and somebody located my original cheques and returned them to AmEx. I must have claimed one less than I was entitled to, so they replaced that one too!

We had all then numbers... however, since it was about $9,000 total ($7,000 group numbers and $2,000 personal it took a LOT longer... They apparently thought we were scamming them! I am not surprised that it took a while since Amex overall has NEVER impressed me with thier idea of Customer service)
