We usually ALWAYS bring cash with us ALL week....but this time i'd like to charge things to the room and just pay at the end....if you do this do you really have to check the bill to make sure charges are correct and do you ever get charged for things you didn;t charge????
2 more days till POR :woohoo:

We use our room key for charging every trip. Although we have never found a mistake on our bill I always go through it to make sure. Errors can and do happen. You can get a print out at anytime from your resort front desk. At check out you will get the complete run of all your charges. If you use express check out they will leave this in an envelope on your door the morning you are leaving.

We always use the room key. No cash for us! And yes, once we were charged for an electric wheelchair that we had never rented. No biggie, they took it right off the bill. Use the room key, you won't be fumbling through the wallet or dropping bills along the way. :thumbsup2

I've used the room key for each visit too. I have never found an error. I too review the entire bill before check out. To aid in this I have a small, plastic pouch(I found at the dollar store) that I keep in my bag. After each purchase the receipt is stored in the pouch. At the end of each day I sort through the receipts. Then I total my expenses for the day (food, souvenier, etc). At the end of the week all receipts are organized by day and I can easily go down the room bill to verify that everything is correct.

Something to note though is depending upon your resort you have a daily limit of charges before the CC you supply at check-in is charged. When we stayed at All-Star a few years ago we had to call the resort from MGM to have them charge our card when we got to $500, my room key did not work until they did that. Since then I have only stayed at the moderates-and never had that happen again. My card was automatically charged when I hit a certain amount-which I have conveniently forgotten (I think it is a defense mechanism). :lmao:

Anyway-it is soooooooo convenient-you'll love it.

We used the room key as well on our last trip...
BUT, the only downside is that you don't realize how much you're spending that way. We ended with a bill of $900 on our mastercard for our 11 day trip! Yes, we bought tons of things...but I thought we were at about 700.
It goes up reallllly fast so be careful if you're on a tight budget.

Not sure what we'll do this year.

We too have always used our room key to charge meals and purchases. At check out, you receive a detailed bill, by day. It is easy to review and verify. I have never had a mistake on mine.
There is a preset maximum that you can charge. This is determined and communicated to you at check in. I think it was $1500 when we stayed at the BCV in October. I also believe that the class of resort plays into how the maximum is determined. I am sure someone else can add details to this.

WE used room key on one trip and had no errors, but spent more than we thought. I suggest if your on a budget either add up daily or use cash when you run out you know it's gone :sunny:

While some people may think this is going a bit overboard...

During our last trip, I found it easiest to carry along a mini notebook so I could write down and add up all the purchases as they happen. That way, when we got the bill, we could verify everything. Also, we knew at any momemt how much we had spent. Made it easy to know if we could buy the "special" presents for our daughter.

one word of caution... i think we were at mgm and wanted a bottle of water from a kiosk... they only took cash, no dining plan credits or room key charges... fortunately i carried about $20 with me... also, you may need cash for tips (mousekeeping, DME, etc) and the arcade if you choose to play...

We used it for the whole week, but what I would do is stop at the desk mid week and get a print out to see where we were on spending, that way no big surprise on your door and the last day!!!

Preset charge limits are:
Value 500.00
Moderate 1000.00
Deluxe 1500.00

If you reach your preset level your card is charged. otherwise it's charged appox 2a on check out day.

It goes so fast.... we also sad money on us too (forgot to say!).
We bought so many toys and gadgets and shirts and ahhhhh...
We bought the Disney Monopoly game one night cause we were bored and it was raining.... wow, what a waste! Not that special...
We had a luggage full of things that we bought! Our daughter was spoiled too... oh well, might as well live while your alive!

our room key for all charges and have never had a problem (knock on wood). We find it so much easier than bringing cash or a credit card, one less thing to have to worry about and it is nice to have one final bill with all charges. You will still need some cash as some of the small carts serving drinks, etc. only take cash. We find it to be a great perk for staying on-site and miss it when we run over to Universal (while staying at Disney) for a day or two.

The same room key privilege is available to Universal on-site guests--so I speak from experience with that.

We always charge to the room. I hate check out day when we return to the parks and can no longer charge to the room! We carry about $10-20 in cash in case we want a drink and a small stand either doesn't take the card (rare) or the system is down at that shop.

To avoid the "suprise" at check out, we keep track of all receipts on a daily basis. I keep an envelope in the room and each day survey the damage. The other thing we do to control spending is have a souvenier shopping day. Instead of buying everything we want when we see it, I write it down including price and location of shop. Then, when it is time to shop for souveniers, I look and my list, consider my budget and make purchases accordingly. It works for us.

I also use the room key card to charge purchases. However, I bring traveler's checks with me on vacation and go to the front desk and pay off the balance every three or four days. This way, you don't get a shock when the final bill comes and it's easier to keep track of your purchases.

Now is that for the entire stay or is the limit on per day. I was thinking that the limit was per day and that you had to call the front desk to authorize anything above the per day limit.

I too use the key card for the trip and pay every few days with travellers cheques and pay it off the night before we leave. You do need some cash, tips ,snacks etc.

Last year I chose not to use the card to charge for about the first hour, then changed my mind and went back to the desk to reverse it. It has to be one of the best features about staying onsite. I don't feel like I overcharged by having it; just loved the idea of not having to carry cash with me. The only downside was having to sign my name everytime I used it.

We used our card for our last trip and it worked great. When we checked in I gave them $1000.00 cash to put down on the card. I would check in every couple of days to find out the balance. When it got low I would add some cash to it. This way we could control our spending.
