I have to make a $9,000 payment for DD's tuition. Any reason I can't pay it with my Disney Visa and then send a check to pay it off at the same time? Seems like an easy way to get $90 diz dollars. Am I missing something here?

If the school takes credit cards and you have the cash to pay it off right away, I say go for it. I'll probably use my Disney Visa to pay some medical bills just to get the points.

Depends on the school. Our kids private school charges a 2% fee for using a card. So of course we do not use the card to gain 1% from our Disney Visa. :)

But some schools do not charge a fee. I would ask your school first,

I agree with PP. You need to check with the school about a fee. I don't use my Disney Visa to pay for my insurance or my taxes every year because they charge a fee to use a credit card.

I just did this last month. My son's state school, as of July 1st, is imposing a 2% fee if you use a credit card. They sent a notice home last month letting people know of this new fee. So, I paid the tuition prior to July 1, and saw that my Disney Visa was just credited with $60 in Disney Dollars. I just wrote out the check to get that tuiton off my visa, and now I will pay for my other son's fall tuition, which is through a private college that does not impose any fee for using a credit card and will get another $80 Disney dollars! So far, we have almost $600 for our January trip!!!

Ultimately, schools allowing credit cards kind of raise tuition for everyone-it's a straight 1,2,3% discount rate. Some do accept though, some do not. My DS's charges 3% so no, we don't use it.:)

Thanks all for the very fast answers. I'll have to check if the school has a charge.

I would ask if the school has a pay up front and/or cash discount too!

I pay my daughter's private school monthly tuition by my DisVisa! Like getting those points each month. :)

I paid my college course with my DisneyVisa and loved those extra points. I think I'm going to check to see if my daughter's private school will let us pay that way too.

Kari's parent's paid the downpayment on our truck with a CC just to get the 1% rebate on it, and then paid it off.
As long as you're paying it off, why not get free money?

When my MIL died, my FIL (who is notoriously bad with money) had no way to pay for the funeral. I had just gotten my Disney Visa, and back then they had a lot of 12 months 0% interest on purchases. He called us to ask for the money for the funeral, I wasn't so interest in paying $9,000.00 with no time frame for repayment--but I also did not think it was right to stick it to the funeral home, they did their job.

So I called the funeral home to ask if I could put it on a credit card, the said no problem. I called my FIL and told him I didn't have the money, but that I could put it on my credit card that had 6 months free interest (I figured 6 months for him to not pay, and 6 months for me to drive him crazy until he paid). At the time I was not thinking disney points, but it was a nice gift to get the 90 disney dollars.

For the record, even though he did get $42K in insurance money, a month after my MIL died, it did take him the full 6 months to pay me back. I was glad I gave myself the the 6 month nagging cushion.

Now I use the Disney card for everything, my town even takes it fee free for my water/sewer bill--in an odd way I am flushing myself to Disney.

We pay for our son's tuition on our Chase Disney Visa as well but we also make sure that we do not carry a balance on the card either. He attends a state school and they prefer that payment is made online....no additional fees imposed. The points add up quickly allowing mom & dad extra $$ for WDW!

When my dh was getting his doctorate we charged his tuition and got a whopping $800 off our trip! We always paid it off immediately; it was nice to get such a discount on our trip. We never carry a balance so anything we can charge we do - just started putting dd's orthodontics on there for example. But again, we always pay it off.

OP here.... Thanks to everyone for your help(and humor). I paid DD's tuition with the Disney Visa without a surcharge. I then immediately sent a check to Chase to pay in full. Nice feeling to have tuition paid(at least for fall) and get reward $$ to boot.:cool1:

I tried to pay my taxes (over 11K) but the town wanted to charge us 3%, OUCH!
Meanwhile, is there a LIMIT in how many dollars you can accumulate monthly, etc. I know there is for the special promos...like right now the 5X.....
anyone know???????????
