My wife just recieved an email claiming to be paypal that said our account had been suspended because of suspicious activity. She did not follow the link listed and instead went directly to paypal. Well our account is not suspended and the numbers listed don't exist to them. sounds like someone is out there trying to get your password info to drain your account so BEWARE!!! :surfweb:

I have gotten this before. Wiht us, however all real PayPal emails get sent to my DH as it's his account not mine, even though we both can use it. I think they have a place you can email the scam letter to. They have ways of backtracking the emails and shutting these people down. I know ebay likes to have sent to them, helps keep them alert on the new threats out there.

I never follow a link in any email unless it's from my survey groups I belong to.

I get those about 2 times a year. Be sure to report them to paypal and also watch out for ebay scams also. Same thing, something is wrong with the account and asking to verify information. Never do this, and always report it.

Hi! I am an Ebay seller and I get these scam emails all the time (once or twice a day)...after a while you know what they are going to look like.

There is a section of the Paypal website that will tell you how Paypal themselves will contact you via email...they use certain guide lines like using your name instead of "Dear Paypal User", etc. If you use Paypal alot, I would read up on it.

There is also a way to forward your email to a spoof support, but I cannot remember the address at this time...its like spoof@paypal.com or something like it...I am rambling now...

I can go on and on about this topic since I am forever getting emails like this...there are also hackers out there that will send an emailsaying they never received an Ebay item and forward you to the Ebay log in screen so they can steal your passwords...

Be careful all!!!

Lauren
ebay: atomsdepot for all of your R/C needs!

when i was new to paypal and ebay i got one of these and listened to it. i got scammed 368 bucks...and it was not considered fraud. we "bought" the guy the stuff he charged on my card. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!

These are called "phishing" and a person should NOT answer those emails. I get them all the time - saying they are from eBay, PayPal, various banks, etc. For both PayPal and eBay you should forward them (not answer) to: spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com

They come in various forms - i.e. telling you that your account is suspended, your information needs updating, emails yelling at you threatening you with police action because you didn't ship an item they bought from you, (for which of course you never sold them). Basically - just forward all of those to the spoof addresses. Both PayPal and eBay will answer you back assuring you those were scam emails.

I get at least 20 a day of these! I get them from banks I don't have accounts with - your address just got sold and people (scammers) just hope some person will panic and give out the information.

The scamer's keep trying to get you.

I have never received e-mails like this. Thanks to you guys I will now be prepared for them. :thumbsup2

I get the scam paypal emails all the time. They actually posted a warning on the website a few months back that said they would never send you an email to notify you if you account was suspended, or if any changes to the account were made. the email's I always get say that a new address has been added to my account. If you click on the link in the scam emails, immediately report it to Paypal and change your password.

I get paypal and ebay scams several times a week. I got one earlier today that caught me by surprise. It was disguised as someone asking me a question about an item that I had not listed. I looked at it for a moment before I started laughing... Remember never to login to your accounts from a link in an email. If you want to check anything out, log onto the internet first then go to your ebay or paypal account first as you normally would (as the original poster's wife did!!) and check it out there. I always forward my phish emails to spoof@ebay.com and spoof@paypal.com.

I'm glad your wife didn't fall for it!! :)

This happened to my mom too and she almost answered! Thank goodness I was there to stop her and no harm was done.

Shame on those scammers! :sad2:

this has been going on for a while. they sometimes even send e-mails asking for your paypal password! don't do it!

I had that happen before, call Paypal and send them the email address that emailed you...it is a fraud and the real Paypal will take care of it
