Pay OOP for 10 year old to save credits?

Thanks OP for the great idea!! Our DD just turned 10 and I was faced with sticker shock when I booked us in Dec. on DDP. I'm sure we won't do it everytime, but several times I'm sure we will b/c she'll want the kids meal anyway!!! And then DH and I can maybe go do a sig. restaurant - bonus!! :)

Wow, I wish I had that problem! My DS will be 9 on the trip, but I paid to upgrade him to an adult because he eats so much! I figured a kids meal would go very far for him. :guilty:

Sorry I'm new to this but I'm not really understanding what I'm reading.

Is the OP asking to buy the dining plan for her DD10 and only using it at certain times then paying cash for "cheaper" kids meals on the menu and her DH will use the DD10 meal and double it up for a more expensive meal?

I am just checking into getting the DP, one sit down dinner, quick service and one snack per day for myself, DH DD6 and DD3. Can you use one of your childs unused sit down dinners for yourself?

If so, that's pretty awesome! I am trying to figure out if buying the plan would be well worth it. We have ressies at lunchtime for Les Chef des France, Tusker House and 50's Prime time Cafe and dinner ressies at Chef Mickey's and Whispering Canyon Cafe. We also have 11:55 AM ressies at Cinderellas Castle. Do you think the dining plan is worth it with our ressies and possibly buying some quick meals at the parks. We have been planning on eating breakfast in our room and bringing sandwiches into the parks, but now I'm not so sure.:upsidedow Thanks

The table service credits are only split adult and child on a card. There is no using 'her' credit - they are pooled.

So 2 adults and a 10 yr old checking in for 5 nights get a card with 15 adult TS credits on it as they are all disney adults.

How they spend them is up to them eg one person could use them all, they could each have 5 TS meals etc.

What the op is going to do is use 2 credits a meal then pay out of pocket for her 10 yr old. A kids meal is $8 or so. A credit could be worth $40+ at some places.

If they do this they will be able to have some more TS meals or eat at places needing 2 TS credits a person - signature dining.

The problem on the boards is usually people complaining the kids food is not enough and paying to upgrade 8/9 year olds to disney adults.

But if you have a 10/11 year old light eater this seems a good plan.

But it only works if your child is age 10 plus.

TS credits are split adult and child on DDP so you can only get a childs meal with their credit eg 2 adults and an 8 yr old for 5 nights get 10 adult TS and 5 child TS loaded on their card.

It can work if you are doing FD and your child is not yet 10:
We are doing something similar. DD7 is A really "adventurous" eater and often wants something other than the kids meal choices, but will occasionally order off the kids menu. We are doing FD, so we aged her up to 10 and paid the $36 dollar difference between and adult and child's park ticket so that she could have adult dining credits. Anywhere she chooses to order off the kids menu, we will pay OOP and use those credits to pay for other meals.
