Pay it forward or against the rules ??

Evan&Kimberly made a great point. Rules are black and white as written. But rules are also left to interpretation. I say get the mugs and give them to people who are looking at buying them. However, be aware that those people might be very wary about taking them. It's even difficult to give away FastPasses sometimes!

I think its a very nice idea and I would totally go for it.

I wish I had gone with my heart back in June. It was our last full night and I knew we were going to have a hard time using up our cs credits. We were at Columbia Harbor House and I was about to offer the couple behind us dinner but I sort of chickened out, I didn't want to impose or make them think I was weird! Later on we were sitting near them and I noticed that the young guy had a on a tee shirt that memorialized thier baby girl that had died. Something about that couple all along made me want to "pay forward the pixie dust" and I wish I had. Next time I will take the chance if I have something worthwhile I can't use and not overthink it so much!

And we ended up with four unused cs credits just as I had thought we would.

I almost always heir on the side of the rules in these situations. That being said I don't think you giving away your mug is a big deal. I just reread the rules and it says "You may not use your Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family..." Note it doesn't say "entitlements", it says "meals". Don't think for a second they don't consider every word when writing these rules. I mean, NO SWIMMING is pretty cut and dry. So, I think, is this rule. Have fun spreadin' the Disney love!

Another one with the vote of "Go For It"!!! I think it is a great gesture and you will make some family very happy. You aren't using them length of stay then passing them on--that would be wrong. You are having them be used the way you would have used them IF you drank soda/coffee.

I say go for it. One year my sister's family went to WDW same time as we did. They did not plan on using their Planet Hollywood voucher so she gave it to me. Before we ordered, i asked our server if we could use both of them, that one belonged to my sister ( who was not in the restaurantwith us). She asked the manager and they said it was ok.

I agree with the others.... spread the pixie dust!

I say go for it as well! But as PP has said, don't be surprised if you have to talk someone into taking them. It took me a few minutes to convince a father and son from Canada that the offer of buying them ice creams at the food court was genuine. We had way too many SC to use. I've also treated a few guests to CS meals-it's a wonderful feeling. I still tear up when I remember the reaction of the mom from GA who gave me a big hug when we treated her family to 4 CS meals at AK. She couldn't believe it and it left me feeling great all day.

I see no reason not to do it - it'd be different if you used them all your trip, washed them, and then passed them out.

We would never use them, either, and would pass them on to someone else.

We had 2 sets of FPs for Space last week. We rode once, but we didn't have time to use the 2nd set of FPs. So we found a family waiting in the standby line and gave them the FPs.

Wait! It's clearly marked on the FP that it's nontransferable! Isn't that, like, breaking a rule?

I figured they wouldn't throw up a roadblock to bring us to justice.

IMHO giving your unused refillable mug to someone falls in the same category. It's the WDW equivalent of rolling through a stop sign or driving 3 mph over the speed limit.

You are talking about unused mugs that you purchased with your package. I say you "purchased" them as gifts to be given away.

We have been recipients of such generosity. We woke up at 3 am last December-- I won't bore you with the details--but had a horrendous time all morning long--arriving at WDW around 2 pm. After check-in, I was sitting at a booth in our resort food court just fighting tears (I never cry) and trying to calm down. There was an incredible family from Canada that came over to us and told us they had been watching for a large family to do something nice for. They proceeded to do several nice things for us. (Canadian family--if you are reading this ) I am telling you--they made our day! Actually, they made our week! It was one of the best vacations ever because they sprinkled pixie-dust in the form of kindness and generosity upon us before they flew back to Canada.

It IS against the rules. It IS nice of you to think of it.

You can certainly give your mug away - it would be against the rules however, for the person you gave them to to use the mug to get beverages.

Nah, just the dry horse responding the OP's question about the rules. No judgement, just answering the question that was asked.

I think the question the OP has was "Is it against the rules?" I don't see anything that indicates for sure that it IS against the rules.

You can't bring a used mug back for your next visit, and you couldn't wash out your used mug and give it to someone to use -- that would be like washing off your plate at a buffet when you are done and handing it to someone just walking in the door of the restaurant The price of the buffet clearly is for one person eating one meal But to take an unused mug that is for unlimited refills for the length of your stay and give it to one person who will use that mug for just the length of their stay -- it's like buying the item as a gift for someone. It's an item, like a T-shirt or a pin lanyard. I don't see that it's against the rules, but if the OP has any concerns, they could contact Disney and just ask
