We are planning our first trip to DW Nov 11-17, staying at CSR. I was wondering if it is better to just go ahead and pay for a preferred location or is it better to wait until you check in and try to get an upgrade for no charge. We have to get two rooms, because there is 6 of us, so paying the extra $20 a night for each room ,for six nights, starts to add up. I think the time of year that we are going tends to be slow, so maybe we'd have a good chance of getting a free upgrade. If we are not offered a free upgrade, can we pay for it at the time of checkin? Any help or advice is very appreciated.

Thanks Again!

I would not pay for view at that resort it's a pretty resort anywhere you get and a view is what your paying for not to be closer to food court like at pop or something but if you want the view for sure pay for I just would not. I did get bump into a water view but i would not take it to the bank.

With 2 rooms I think your chances of an upgrade are not as good. If you want the upgrade pay for it now. There might not be anything when you check in.

Basically, if it doesn't matter one way or the other, I wouldn't worry about requesting it now, and paying for it. If it does matter, and from what I've heard about CSR (it's rather spread out), it might matter. I would pop for the extra $20/night to have that comfort in having a room close to the food court.

I'm a firm believer in paying for what you want when you book. That way, you know for sure you will not be disappointed.

CSR is a gorgeous resort!! Your going to love it.

It depends on how much you want/need the preferred location. If it were a veiw I would not pay but depending on the members of your party and consiering the distance of the resort IMHO the room location could make or break your vaction. You have to decide if its worth $40.00 or not to be closer to the main area.

FWIW I have tried to book a preferred room a few times at either CBR or CSR and they are not always available. Based on my experience I would not count on either a free or even a paid upgrade at checkin - esp for 2 rooms. At Disney IMHO if you want something its best to book it.

You could also think about a smaller moderate like POFQ where all the rooms are very close to the amenities and the "extras" are a short walk away at POR? Just another idea -

There is no "preferred location" at CSR. There is a Standard View and a Water View which could put you in any of the buildings. I would not spend the extra money for a Water View but if I was somewhere like CBR I would absolutely pay the extra money for a "preferred location"

We booked a standard room at CSR and requested Casitas. We were upgraded to a water view and was very close to the food court. As the previous poster said preferred rooms at CSR just give you a certain view or king size bed. They don't guarantee you'll be close to the main building. I wouldn't pay for a preferred view here.

Now at CBR they also have water view and king rooms you can pay more for that are scattered throughout the resort, but their preferred rooms puts you in within close proximity of Old Port Royal and the main pool, so those preferred rooms are worth paying for. When I stayed at CBR this past Dec I had to call for over two weeks, before a preferred room finally became available. I was told that their preferred rooms go fast. I know when I was checking in there that the family next to me was asking for a preferred room and none were available.
