Pay dues with points

In a casual conversation with my MIL, I learned that she can use her points to pay for dues; (not sure what 'system' this is). This got me to wondering why DVC doesn't do this.

It would seem that allowing this would reduce rental market and maybe even the resale market. The only reason I can think of is that Disney must not think they can get enough cash reservation dollars to cover the points they may get.

Any one have any thoughts about this? Have you ever heard this discussed at the annual association meetings?

We'd never use this even if it was available but just curious why it's not an option.

Points are only good for lodging, nothing else. She must be trading the use of her points to cover the cost of her annual fees.

From the sound of the OP, I think the MIL has a non-DVC timeshare that allows this. Hence the OP's use of the phrase "got me wondering why DVC doesn't do this."

They already have too many rooms that they can't rent. Look at how many people they upgraded from the values to fill empty rooms at OKW & SSR for nothing.

Yes, I understood that. But with the State of FL, I don't think you can use timeshare points for anything but lodging. Not sure about other states.

I know I can use my Capital One reward points to pay dues. I'm assuming OP meant some sort of credit card reward point system.

If that is the case, then we do have that option. My understanding is that you can use the Disney Visa reward points to pay for your dues.

In other timeshare point sytems you can convert points into $ to cover your MF's.

Both Bluegreen and Wyndham have it, but I think you have to cross a certain point threshold to be able to do this.

Unfortunately DVC does not have this option.

Personally I use my Disney Visa to pay the fees, I use my rewards as my "food fund" for our trips.

You can also use the rewards towards your MF's.

Some DIS'er a few months ago had accumulate 3000 Reward dollars and was going to use them for a cruise. If I had that many I'd pay my MF's with them.
