One of Minnesota's senators - Paul Wellstone - was just killed in a plane crash this morning here in northern Minnesota, along with his wife & daughter.

This devastating news has had me glued to the TV all afternoon! A dear friend of ours passed away on Tuesday of cancer. He and his wife were a very active in the Democratic party, and his wife now has to deal with not only losing her husband, but these good friends as well.

Even though I didn't always agree with his politics I hate to see his life cut short this way.

Amen, Bananiem. I had no intention of voting for Senator Wellstone, but I was heartbroken when I heard about this tragedy. You didn't have to agree with him to appreciate his sincerity.

While I had not intention of voting for him, I was just stunned to hear the news. It was a very close and competitive race and I was looking forward to seeing how it would end. He certainly was a passionate person and I feel for his sons and grandchildren to be so deprived of his presence so young in his life.

My condolences to the family members left behind, and to the people of Minnesota. . it sounds like you lost a good public servant.

I'd also like to add that I find it to be in extremely poor taste use this tragedy as an opportunity to make smart-*** remarks. . .

I'm not sure if I would have voted for him or not, I am still deeply saddened. I met him once, eating lunch at Wendy's. He came over and said hello and talked to my kids for a few minutes. He was very nice. It's very sad, I feel for the rest of his family.
