Hello everyone. Can any of you tell me the best place to look for patterns for prom/formal dresses? My DD really wants to have a dress that is unlike everyone elses for prom. She has all of these ideas in her head, but I am not finding a good place to look for patterns. She really does not want a solid color dress. She wants to wear something that is two different colors. Can you guys help me with this. Are there any seamstresses out there or really good "sewers" with ideas on where to look. We have someone willing to sew the dress, but need to find a pattern.

Well, the usual suspects, for the most part. www.sewingpatterns.com is an amalgamated site that has all of the major pattern brands, including some of the European ones.

As to two different colors, I really don't see how that's an issue. Anyone who knows how to sew well enough to do a decent job on a formal gown can take a look at the pattern sheets and divide out the yardage to tell you how much to buy of each color that you want. The picture on the pattern doesn't have to be two colors; you can just decide you want it that way. I'd sketch it in the colors you want, to see how it works before you spend money on fabric.

(PS: When you say two colors, I'm assuming that you don't mean colors that change gradually. THAT effect has to be done with special dyes, and it's quite difficult. What I meant was goring the skirt, or making the bodice (or parts of it) different from the skirt, which anyone can easily do.)
