There is always a lot of discussion on various paths at WDW, such as OKW to DD, BWV to MGM, and BWV to Epcot, etc.

Earlier this year I used my GPS to measure these paths, and then reported the results here. (See links below)

On our most recent trip, I measured some additional paths, so here's the next in the series.

Villas at Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness Campground

To take the paved path, begin at the covered walkway between Wilderness Lodge and the Villas. Using the GPS, this path measured 0.90 miles to the stop sign at the road crossing for Fort Wilderness.

There is also an optional nature trail you can take part of the way. This trail begins behind the bike rental shack down by the marina. Going this way it is 0.23 miles to the junction with the paved pathway, and then another 0.58 miles to the stop sign at FW. (For a total length of 0.81 miles, or slightly shorter than taking the paved path all the way).

I took several photos that you can see in a slide show. Click Here to see an 8-photo Slide show, with descriptions.

Next report will be the loop around the lake at the Epcot Area Resorts.

If anyone has any other paths or walks of interest, please post back or e-mail and I'll try to include it for our next trip.

For your next project, how about determining how many miles it is from the elevators to the furthest rooms at BWV? :)

Is the path from WLV to FW lit? In other words, can you use it at night? Is it a viable alternative (to the busses/boats) for folks going to/from the HDDR from WLV?

Great posts! We have taken all of those paths several times.

I was also wondering if it's safe to walk the trails at night. We just missed the boat to FW when going to the HDDR, and waited for the next one. Would it have been quicker just to take the trail? We didn't even know that the trail existed! No one is Guest Services even mentioned it.

I am looking forward to trying it when we go home in July!

I would also be very interested in knowing whether it's lit at night. Anyone know?

The path is NOT lit, and I definitely would not recommend taking it at night. For most of it's length it is in fairly wooded areas, and I'm sure it would be extremely dark.

If you had lots of flashlights, that might be different. Try walking it during the daytime once, then you could decide if you wanted to go at night.

Pete W, that would be an interesting path to measure, but I don't think my GPS has enough memory in it to record a trip that far..:D

Caskbill....thanks for the informative post and the wonderful pictures. You're making me "home"sick. ;)

We've never tried to walk to FW before. We will have to try this for sure our next trip.

Great post, my wife and I just walked this trail Friday, and were wondering how far it was. If it didn't get dark so early I would do the walk to HDD, especially after!

Pooh&piglett:

Yes, there will be more Pathways Revealed. These will include:

The walk around the Epcot area resorts lake. (I can never remember the lake's name)

Epcot

Magic Kingdom

Animal Kingdom

MGM

Hopefully I can get them all in this week. There won't be any photos (I'm sure everyone is familiar with all the above walkways), but I do have the GPS track and a breakout of distances between major features in each walk.

This is a great thread that hasn't been seen in a while. I love this type of information.

I would love to have info for SSR to DTD or from the SSR Bldgs to the main pool! LOL

I do a lot of Jogging at Disney, and have found the road around the outside of BWV/BCV/Swan/Dolphin to be pretty nice. Other than going under the bridge that links the BC lake to the Epcot lake, it all has a sidwalk. Sometimes it is nice to be out on a sidewalk, as opposed to the crowded boardwalk.

Also, I've jogged around the Magic Kingdom 'backroads'. It is a long way, but you can go behind the Magic Kingdom (although it is posted service vehicles only), then follow the lake around the transportation center, then Polynesian, then the Grand Floridian.. It is about 4 miles all the way around, but you get to see the Monorail service center and the Fire Dept.

Getting throught the Polynesian is the confusing part. Also, I wish they could/would finish the brick path between the Grand Floridean and MK, as that would be an awesome path to walk.
