The wonderful world of facebook, I tell you!

I'm going to keep it short and very very generic....

Is it necessary for someone who might be the father of someone else to contact the mother over that paternity issue if the "child" in question is an adult? Like--many years into adulthood?

I'd provide more info, but I'm really trying to make this as camouflaged as possible.

Let's just say that we got an odd facebook message this morning. Only, I didn't b/c they sent it to the wrong LLP. :rotfl2: And there is a snowball's chance that what was stated to us is true, we just would like to know if the "child" can handle it on their own.

Is that your question? If so then my answer is no it is not necessary.

Necessary, no, but possibly something that would be accepted by all parties involved. So, you got a message intended for someone else with the same name? Do you know anyone involved? Many adults find out that their parent isn't who they thought or finally find a parent they've been searching for. What do you mean by if the child can handle it on their own? Emotionally or without anyone else knowing? I think the fact the "child" is an adult means they're entitled to know.

:confused3 I'm confused - so an "adult child" contacts someone and wondering if the mother has to be notified if they are going to do a paternity test.

I would think she doesn't need to be contacted however if testing and paternity is proven I wonder if there would be monetary implications? Like back child support kind of things.

And all of that being said- that's my internet opinion- I'm no lawyer- I would check with a family law clerk.

is this what you mean?

older man finds out that he might have an adult child and wants a paternity test, can the older man go directly to the adult child or does the older man need to contact the adult child's mother?

Facebook can be interesting. I got a PM the other day asking whether it could be possible if I could be that person's mother (they provided the place and date - Indiana, I think). I told them that I was sorry, but it couldn't be me and explained that I don't think I've ever even been in Indiana.

But, to answer your question, if the "child" in question is an adult, nothing requires the father to contact the mother first.

I cannot convey any additional information as it would just be too much personal information. But the message was intended for me. It was sent to 3 people. They just didn't sent it to the "correct" me. So the persons whom did receive it, let me know about it. The message was actually written to me. I just didn't get it.

The adult child did receive this message. We are trying to discern if the person whom opted to contact us out of the blue is sincere or lying and dredging up old wounds for personal gain. Knowing that the child can take care of matters on his own if necessary is useful in determining that. Said person has no snowball's chance of being the father nor is attempting to make that claim. ETA: We do know this person and he is a dishonest man.
I cannot be more specific.

If you are wondering about DNA Testing no you do not need the mother for the testing.

"jerry, jerry. jerry" :lmao:

Just kidding, but in all honesty go through the child and have it done. The parent does not need to be involved as the child is now the adult:goodvibes

Does the father know where the child is or does he need the mother to tell him that? If he doesn't know where the child is, and wants to contact the child, then yes he would need to contact the mother, or anyone else to help him track down the child.

Other than that, since you can't provide more information, not sure any of use can help you.

Everyone knows everyone exists and all that. It's just an odd situation all around.

The responses have been helpful and sufficient for the purpose of my inquiry.

But as a previous poster said...it's a "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!" moment....but not quite that bad.
