Passports?

We are taking a 3 day cruise in November & my DH insists that we will need passports. I say that all we need are our birth certificates, marriage certificate for me, photo ids and we're all set. I also say that our kids, 7 & 10, only need birth certificates and no photo ids. Who's right??

If you are U.S. citizens, then you are correct. I believe Canadians are now required to have passports for re entry into their country.

I did apply for and receive U.S. passports for myself and my DD's last summer. I believe with the unrest and war in the world, it does not hurt to have the ultimate proof of U.S. citizenship readily available to us for future travel out of the country. Plus the price was going up, lol.

Although a birth certificate and official photo ID are acceptable,
the best form of travel ID is a US passport. They are easier to keep tracked of than several seperate items. There is never any question about the validity of the document also.

You never know-passports come pretty handy...you can always use it again-OR-use it as a good excuse to use it again...

We are going on the February 21, 2004 Eastern Cruise. We got passports for our kids and for myself (my old one expired). Like others have said, it is the ultimate proof of U.S. citizenship. I also don't like to travel with birth certificates. I am too afraid of losing them!

We received our passports only two weeks after we applied for them! We were told it would take 6-8 weeks.

Just make sure that your photo ID has a valid date on it. Mom's Driver's License was expired by a few days and fortunately, I had her passport and it was valid!
