First time posting, so here goes.

My family is going to Florida in Feb. My husband and I are driving by car and my daughter and son-in-law are flying.
All of our passports expire the end of June. I think we are ok as far as driving and getting through customs but I am worried about our daughter and son-in law. They will be flying home the first week in Mar.
So that is 3 months + until the passports expire. Is that enough time? How rigid do they get as the date of expiry gets closer.

Thanks in advance

WELCOME TO THE DIS!

In my personal opinion, your passports are good until the date stamped in them. So yours are good till the end of June.

Have a great trip. There is a wealth of information on here for you to read!

They will only need the passport to get into the US, wont they? So, it would be Feb. to June. Anyway I am sure it will be fine.

Actually, your passport is what guarantees that you get back *in* to Canada:)

We focus on the "getting into the States" so much, and I think we take being able to get back home for granted sometimes. :goodvibes

We're proud to carry ours:)

Anyway:), your passports will be fine..you can renew them early if you'd like:)

So, you are saying you don't need one to get *IN* the United States?

Your passport is good until the day it expires and who knows if they will even look at the date.

I'm not sure if this applies to the USA ,but several countries will not allow you to travel if your passport is within 6 months of expiry.

We flew to California in late August. My brother's passport was going to expire in November. He had no problems entering the US or returning to Canada.

It's the US actually that will soon be requring a passport to enter into the US. Canada requires "proof of citizenship" which could be a BC and photo ID, Native Status Card, Citizenship card etc.

No:)

All travellers - driving, bus, ferry, etc - into the US will require passports by June 2009.
Folks who are flying/cruising in/through US territory will require them for January 2007.

For Canadians to get *back* into Canada, your passport is your "ticket home", so to speak:)
What if you're overseas, and you need to seek assistance from a Canadian Embassy?
What if, for some reason, our Canadian border is closed?

So yes, having a passport makes it easier for you to *go* to other places - places that don't necessarily require a passport for entry/proof of citizenship. Having a passport gets you home.

Sorry I wasn't more clear before :goodvibes
