passports vs birth certificates

hi, just wondering if my family and i take a cruise on disney and we do the 3 day to the bahhamas , do we need passports or can we still just use our birth cerificates , thanks in advance

Currently, for US citizens on a closed loop cruise (begins and ends in the same port), all that's required is a CERTIFIED birth for everyone and a government-issued photo ID (drivers licence) for those that are 16 and over.

However, if there were an emergency, and you have to fly home from a foreign port, you would have to apply for an emergency passport to do so.

I agree with Shmoo, if there are problems having the passports makes things so much easier.

When we did the dream we only used our BC.


We will be getting passports and using them for now on.... just in case.
