I've heard that to drive across the border you don't need passports until January 2008 but to fly you need them by January 2007. Does anyone know that correct answer????
You are correct, to fly the deadline is January 2007 and for land and sea travel the deadline is January 2008 (this was as of October 4/06). It is recommended to get one a.s.a.p. just in case the rule is changed again.
That's why we drive across the border and then catch a flight. The whole passport issue is so up in the air. I am hoping that by the time they are required to enter the US via land they will have come up with an easier and less expensive alternative. It adds up for a family of 5 and the kids passports aren't good for as long a time as adults.
