Hi!
We are doing the 4 day Wonder in January with our 4 y.o. and our 8 y.o. Should we get them passports too?

Thanks!
Kristin

While traveling today a passport really is the best way to go. However, unless you are planning to travel abroad a certified birth certificate will be fine for your 4-day cruise. FYI passports for children under 16 need to be renewed every 5 years. HTH

We got passports for our 8,6, 3 year old. They are good for 5 years, and in that time span we may take an internation trip. Also alot handier to have if while on a shore excursion out of the U.S., something out of the ordinary occurs. Birth certificates are proof enough for the Disney folks on the boat, but not much good elsewhere for proof of citizenship.

We are electing to do passports as well. My husband is a US Citizen but was born out of the country - so he doesn't have a birth certificate - he has a "Consular Record of Birth" or something. Odd enough that not everyone recognizes it for what it is. I have a passport, need to have it renewed, and sometimes travel internationally on business. My son is adopted from South Korea - which means his birth certificate has "not proof of US Citizenship" stamped all over it. Leaving my daughter as the only traveling member who doesn't have a good excuse for a passport - I figure I might as well fill out the application for her as long as I'm doing three others.

We have them for our DSs 8 & 10. We didn't have them for our first cruise, but before we even got back, we knew we would be sailing very often, and I bet you will to. They are the best form of identification for traveling and everything else, and easy to use and carry.

My sisters have done both iteneraries with their kids with only birth certificates. They have never needed more. Customs and immigration barely look at your documentation. I wouldn't waste the money unless you were planning on doing another trip - to Europe maybe - They are expensive and expire in 5 years like another poster said.

Save your money, birth certificates work fine for adults and children on DCL and their ports.

BTW, I am taking my 5 year old DN with me on this trip, and he only has a birth certificate. I am not concerned at all...
