Passport?

no, but they do make life a little easier than using a picture ID plus the original birth certificate. we always use our passports for travel.

I second that. Passports are a lot more durable than birth certificates.

not necessary (yet), but highly recommended. You have plenty of time to obtain them.

Hello! We just got back from our first DCL vacation on 7/25/04. It was the 3nt to nassau.( We loved it by the way :D )

We DO NOT have passports. I did have to bring state issued BC for everyone including our children PLUS anyone over 18 will have to show valid photo ID (driver's license) I did not see the reason to spend a lot of $$$ for the 5 of us to get passports. It MAY have taken DCL an extra 30 sec. to check all of the BC and ID's but big deal.

My parents also came with us. They DO HAVE passports. And I will tell you what I told them. Do not take your passport off the ship when arriving at the ports of call. (you will need to have your KTTW card, AND photo ID everytime you leave and return) Use your driver's license for this. If you have kids they will only need their KTTW cards. If it makes you feel better to have proof of citizenship with you, take a copy of your passport only and keep it with you in a secure place. Lock up your passports in the in room safe(all cabins have these and they're great) Security with DCL will also suggest this.

Well I hope this helps you. If in doubt, get on the State Dept web site.princess: www.travel.state.gov

Many destinations will be requiring passports in the future instead of BC's....no, right now you do not NEED passports....but we much prefer to travel with them instead of BC's. Heck, I even use my passport for ID when I travel in this country!!!

If you are only doing one cruise then passports may not be necessary for you...but, if you planning on doing any other kind of travel in the future they are well worth the investment. The adult ones are good for 10 years and the childrens for 5 years.

Europeans MUST have valid passport when cruising. These are kept by DCL while cruising - and only checked at immigration during the week. They are then returned at disembarkation. We also needed a 2nd photo ID - and chose to get new photo Drivers Licenses. ALways read the "small print" before travelling, to avoid any hassles: sadly, some people dont. Nat:Pinkbounc
