Would you go on a cruise without one.....closed loop?
We have 2 in our party that are renewing theirs and it is now taking 18 weeks.
They might not have them back in time

I would. But if it doesn't get back in time I'd chance it.
I certainly wouldn't plan on it, though.

One is expedited, so will take 12 weeks.
One is 6 weeks in.
There are 8 of us going. Hate to leave one behind.
I guess we'll see if it gets here. If not he can make his own decision.
Thank you all for the input

Call and expedite the one that you didn't already. The world is still almost in limbo because of COVID then with how long the wait is to get a passport that also means that in an emergency and you did get stuck in another country for whatever reason then you'd have longer to wait around twiddling your thumbs at the embassy until you can get back to the states.

Also just remember its not just for port excursions. If there is an emergency of any kind and you have to leave the ship unexpectedly you HAVE to have a passport. Medical emergency, mechanical boat emergency, etc.

I know all the reasons to have one, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.
I will ask DIL if she expedited hers.

Very personal decision.
I would not chance leaving the country without one, especially right now. But then again, if forced with cruise or no cruise, I'd probably still go without but not get off the ship unless at Castaway.

No I would not cruise without a Passport and have had one on every cruise I have taken in the past 40 years. But, to be honest, Passports are SOOOO useful for other things even if you have no plans to travel. Most recently for me, getting my real ID Drivers' License. And proving legal citizenship when taking a new job. I don't know why everyone doesn't get one just in case

They both have passports. They are just renewing and that takes a long time.
DIL checked on hers today.
She sent it in the end of April and they have just opened it. Still 12 weeks at least out.

Everyone else has one, even the kids.
This is a family trip that was postponed from June 2020.

We have all cruised with passports. This is not a first cruise.
We just don't know it they will make it in time. It will be close......

Personally I would not do it, but I don't have a trip with family planned and would not have let it expire in the first place - we try to travel as much as we can so I pretty much always "need" it. It will be risky, so it is up to their personal tolerance of risk.

Neither expired.
They had to be renewed to meet the 6 month after time frame. They had no idea it was taking 12-18 weeks to get it back.

Thank you all for all the input
We will hope both arrive in time

That's a bummer. At least it's only taking 12-18 weeks right now. There were times last year when people weren't getting them for 6 months. I hope they make it in time. It's probably a race between the passports and the cruise actually going forward. Good luck.
