Passport renewal online

Has anyone recently renewed their passport online?
Do you have to get a new photo?
How long did it take to receive?

I did mine online. I submitted it July 27 and received it on August 8. You take the photo yourself (or have a friend do it, since they specify no selfies) and upload the photo when doing the application. I had my sister take my photo for me. There are instructions for the photo on the website. It was a much easier process than the old way.

My husband is in the process and he's required to get a new photo. Not sure how he's handling it--he didn't mention to me you could do it yourself.

My wife just did hers online. We were able to take her picture with her phone. First try didn't take (too much shoulders in the pic), but the second one went through. And I think she get her new passport in only a couple weeks.

DH just got his back....took about 3 weeks.
Had to get a new photo. He had it done at AAA

Not recently, last year online. You just take your photo with your cell phone and upload it. HOWEVER, the software is VERY picky about the background and framing of the photo. The background has to be white, with nothing in the background but pure white. So if you have a white textured wall in your house, it may not like the texture if it is too heavy. And you have to take your photo without eyeglasses. First official photo I have had taken in probably 60 years that I was not wearing my glasses.

My husband and I just did ours online - we used our phones for photos. My advice - buy a cheap piece of white poster board. We hung it on our front door (also white) and neither of us had to redo our photos, they worked on the first try (we did read the instructions first too, they are helpful). We tried inside the house but shadows and such kept showing up, and we knew from the instructions that wouldn't work. We did ours around 5-6pm so natural light but not glaring sun. I was a bit overwhelmed when I first read what to do for the whole process but it went super easy. And about a 3 week turn around time.

I just updated my passport online. I took the photo at work in our multimedia studio using a white backdrop. It took 3 weeks to get my new one. Thought I would give an update on timing for those who are curious.

I also recently renewed online using a photo from Walgreens. I submitted the application on 4/5 and my passport is arriving in today’s mail, 4/18. So just 2 weeks start to end!

My son did. His passport was a few months shy of actually needing to reapply for a new passport. If your old one is within 5 years past expiration, you can just renew it.

Yes, he had to get a new photo. My husband took it against a white door in our den with his phone.

He received in within 3 weeks.

My experience has been that you can renew it because all the paper work still exists, but they need a new photo. Aging takes its toll.
