i wanna get my passport but i have heard that you have be going some where in order to get it. do you truly have to have some where you are going to apply for it?

No I don't think so. I'm definitely getting my passport renewed soon along with my dual citizenship, even though I don't have any definite plans to travel out of the country.

I'm like 90% positive you don't need to be going anywhere to get one. Passports are used as personal identification for people who don't have driver's licenses. And since it's used for that, I would think they'd let people who aren't travelling outside the country to apply for one.

you don't need to be going anywhere (out of the country) to apply for a passport. It's a form of personal identification (the best kind, btw) issued by the federal gov't.

and don't waste your $$ on one of those enhanced drivers licenses either (if your state issues them). not all of the border stations can scan them, so they're useless in those places. and there are a lot of those places.

Like PPs have said, you don't need to be going anywhere to get your passport.

Just curious, if you're not going out of the country, why do you want a passport?

okay thanks for all of your help

They are can be a pain but if you need it immediately there good to have...
I live near the Canadian border(About an hour away) and we chose to get them because of sometimes we will decide just that day we want to go up to Canada for something we can leave and we don't have to run home to get our passports etc...
Also you can get them in a day if required but that means having to be at the DOP at 5:30am in the morning and if your not there but 6:30am you wont get in that day and if you are there by then you will have to wait all day...
I know that all of are border crossing up here in Washington can scan them but I'm not sure about other states
Also you can't fly anywhere with them... But you can drive, take the train, or Cruise with them
But it will take anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months to get your passport
And I believe it's a $100's
But anyone can get one...
