DW and I are heading out to redo our honeymoon June 6-13 and are doing a land/sea package that week. Wifey wants to know if her passport will be honored with her maiden name on it or if she should get a new passport.

Anyone have a problem with this kind of thing in the past? Also, one month from today . . . . . . . . we're there!

My wife and I had no issues on our honeymoon to Australia.

I've been told that she should bring your marriage certificate along as well.

I would make sure that the tickets are booked in the same name as what's on the passport. You might want to check with a travel agent to make absolutely certain.

Also, one month is cutting it close for a new passport unless you are going to have it rushed.

I take it that you are already married since you say you are 'heading out to redo our honeymoon' . She wouldn't need a new passport just an ademdum (sp?) to the back page with her new name. You will need to send the related documents to the passport office for the change to be done. You will probably have to pay extra for the expedited service to have it back in time.

I do believe as well, that your passport must have the same name as what the tickets are booked under.

For instance, when we left for our honeymoon (Immediately after our wedding), of course I had my maiden name on my passport. You cannot change your name on it until you have the marriage cert. So, our TAsaid I should book our Honeymoon under my husbands name AND my Maiden name so that we caould use the passport (which was required for our trip). I traveled under my maiden name and when we returned, I sent in the proper paperwork to have my name changed (which only cost about $25 if I remember correctly, maybe less) and it only took about 10 days to get it back. I received my old passport back with a hole punched in it as well as my new passport.

I would double check with your TA.

Traveling under a maiden name is just easier. The US airlines will accept the marriage certificate without a problem, but it's safer and easier (if not as romantic) for your wife to travel under her maiden name. At this point I wouldn't risk sending the passport off to be amended anyway, since there's no need. My wife and I traveled to France for our honeymoon in 2001, and we just used her maiden name for everything.

When we got married many moons ago, I used my maiden name on my passport, no problem, but all my id was in my maiden name. Then upon return we traveled and I brought my Marriage license with us, it was then that they said (immigration) that I just needed to amend my passport, it was simple, they added the name change on the last page. Then when I renewed, the married name was on the front. As long as her tickets are in her maiden name no problem, but if they are in her married, bring along the marriage license.
