Passport maiden name/vax card married name

It's perfectly legal to maintain your current passport with your old name, and you can find this info on the gov't website. As mentioned above, you may need a copy of your marriage license at places to justify IDs not matching, so I'd be prepared just in case. I also have no idea what other countries might require for you. I would think they would have to at least follow the US requirements, or what's the point?

My last marriage had this state issue where you couldn't update the license name without the social matching, and couldn't update the social without the license matching (even with the marriage certificate). The amount of documentation it ended up requiring for someone to blink first was ridiculous! How that can still be an issue in this state for all these years baffles me. A friend didn't change hers within the state's required time frame, and as a result was refused her license and had to appeal it for months. While these are state frustrations, I now have a paranoia of ID issues, and would update my passport.

Updating here because I am officially CLEAR TO SAIL. Before today, I spent a ton of time trying to Google someone who sailed under my same circumstance to get an idea of how it would go, so hopefully this gives peace of mind to anyone in the future who finds this thread trying to find the same thing! There ended up being a lot of speculation and incorrect info in this thread, so I’m officially posting here to say that I booked under my maiden name to match my passport (which is completely valid and legal), and submitted my vax card with my married name plus my marriage certificate explaining the name change to Safe Passage, and got approved very quickly with zero issues :)

Thanks for the confirmation! This is what I suspected but good to have 100% certainty. One less thing to worry about as we approach our cruise 1 month from now. Bon voyage!

That's great news! Have a wonderful cruise!

And thanks for the info too. I'm sure that will be helpful in the future.

A passport is still a legally form of ID. Yes, your reservation should match your passport. I have this issue and will continue to have this issue until the end of time because in my country of citizenship my legal name does not change upon marriage. We do have to present extra documentation (ie marriage license) but also have had no issues getting thru safe passage and on board.
