Passport?.....HELP!!!

I totally agree, when traveling anywhere, you should always use a passport. :thumbsup2

So far I haven't heard anything about them making exceptions to the passport requirements for Canadians at all.

And you may be right and I honestly hope you are. It was something I had heard was all, nothing more, nothing less.

Just get the passport folks. It's price of one cup of coffee a month. It opens door to you that a travel card never will, like being able to take advantage of those last-minute package deals to places like Cuba.

True, but for those who don't have a passport and who want to take advantage of that last-minute free dining package deal to WDW, $87 a pop is painful. :)

My grandmother (think Auntie Mame) always said a lady should never be without a passport just in case she gets wisked off on a last minute trip to Paris! :goodvibes

My best friend and her husband travelled last spring with their camper to WDW and were held up at the border while the border agents questioned their children separately from them. They did not have passports , only drivers liscences and school ID for the children.
They will have their passports the next time they travel!

That probably had more to do with the border agents uncertainty about custody of the children rather than citizneship. Maybe if one of the adults wasn't a biological parent there was some concern.

Living in a border city, I travel to the US quite often and have found it really all depends on the agent you get when you arrive at customs. Some are really nice and reasonable others are power-tripping and extremely unreasonable. They do not have to have a reason to turn you back and not allow you to cross - if they don't like the looks of you they can turn you back. My husband, for instance, has some tatoos (which he can hide in winter, but pretty odd to wear long-sleaved shirts in summer) and long hair. They used to turn him back every time he went over. He finally wrote to the US Immigration and Naturalization Service with a statement of a clear criminal record asking why he was always turned back. He received a letter back saying that he has no reason to be inadmissible to the United States and to show this letter when he crosses. This is not a Pardon or Waiver - he has no criminal record. But because of his appearance, and only his appearance, they would not allow him admission. Now when he shows this letter he has no problems. My friend is a medical doctor and a Canadian citizen and she was given a hassle the last time she went over. So, all being said, I would arrive at the US border with as much documentation as you can. A passport will not guarantee you admittance to the states, but it will give the border officers one less thing to hassle you about!

I just got back from crossing over the border and they did not ask for a passport. You do need id. But just for the ease of not having to carry over your documentation (just in case your purse or wallet is missing or stolen) its better to have a passport. I made copies of the documents before I left - just in case something did happen.

I work For a bus company and cross the border for work I only have a dr lic and Birth cer I have never had trouble crossing the border .other than getting my car searched every time i cross on my way to DW ( might be because i cross in the middle of the night ) Most large groupe call ahead and Fax a copy of all doc to the border that they are crossing at it speeds things up and allso lets you know if anyone will have a problem .Might not work at a busy crossing .I do agree that pasports are a good idea though but i am hoping for the new cards as i dont always know when i will be crossing the border .:)
