Passport for Nassau?

I have been planning to use birth certificates for boarding our 3 day cruise in a few weeks. But we also have booked an excursion for Nassau.

Will I have a problem?

I just cruised in May and we used our DL/BC and had no problem in Nassau. I think I just had to show both my ship ID and DL once I left Nassau (you have to go through security or customs or something like that at that point).
