Does anyone have any ideas of fun things to do in line? We are going in two weeks and I was thinking that the lines will be long. Do you bring toys or have word games to pass the time in line? My DDs are 10 and 12. Any ideas?

I love our Pal Mickey...totally keeps our boys occupied...also I'm a fan of snacks like pretzels or something self contained like that. Our biggest time killer is talking about what our favorites that day have been. I've seen other people say they bring certain toys.

I hate to admit it, but I've even found that buying a new toy at Disney during the day completely appeases the waiting in line gods....:duck:

They are old enough to look for "hidden Mickey's". There is a great resource book called "Hidden Mickeys" by Steven Barrett. My kids and I have a blast looking for them on every ride.

Thats a good one, since I have a Barnes n" Noble gift card to use, I was wondering what I could buy there for out trip. I'll add that one to my list of ideas. Thanks nicwoodard!

We play "my movie has....", then you say something like "a rabbit". Everyone can guess the movie or any clues, like "is it animated?" etc. Mine was "Song of the South" by the way. :)

I too, am a fan of snacking on a little treat to pass the time! We bought those cute little tins of Disney mints and would always bust them out during a long wait. This year I'm going to bring the "Hidden Mickey" book and we'll see if we can spot any while we're waiting. There's always the old stand-by games:
"I'm going to California and I'm Bringing and APPLE, etc" or "I Spy". You could do a visual scavenger hunt... probably any game you could play on a car trip would also work for standing in lines.

We ended up playing "name a Disney character that starts with ____" going through the alphabet.
Or invest in rechargeable batteries and flip through the digital camera to see what you have been doing all day.

O.K. I'm getting some good ones...

jade1: that is a good one that doesn't require a lot of footnotes. I'll write it down on my cheat sheet I bring in my purse.

iheartdisney: the digital camera idea will work out very nicely. My DH is in the process of buying a new one for our trip. It has been at least 8 years since we bought one. He is soo excited!

nicwoodard: What a great site! Going to have a fun time on that one.

It can also be a time to talk about what you want to do next. We usually have a plan but there is always time for "hey would y'all rather.."

girls that age, know tons of hand games eg. concentration, etc. have the whole family learn them, and time will fly.

We play the ABC game based on actual words seen -- so for example in the line for Peter Pan we start with the letter A and work through the alphabet - so A might be word "and" on a sign, B might be the word "Boat" on the person's shirt ahead of us -- etc - it isn't just the item - seeing a BOAT would not count but seeing the word spelled out does. It is really amazing how you can see different things playing this game.

We have the Hidden Mickeys Guide book and read about any of the hidden mickeys that may be on the ride that we are in line for. If we've been on the ride before, we try and figure out where exactly the book is talking about and keep on the lookout for them once we are on the ride.

here is a good one - I heard the author on a podcast. Sounds pretty neat. You will find it on Amazon for $20. Really looks neat

Awwww, I was gonna guess Song of the South.

If you are doing it right, you shouldn't have too much time stuck in long lines, but I have a Blackberry and I play Brickbreaker while I'm waiting on almost anything whether in Disney or not. I've seen tons of kids carrying Gameboys as well, especially if they wear cargo pants so they can quickly slip them in/out their thigh pockets and button them up. I just hate it when people get so engrossed in their queue "activity" that they hold up the line by not paying attention to it.

Sing "It's a Small World"?

I would think this would possibly work up until everyone around you killed you, then I guess it would help pass their time:rotfl2:

When in line for Soarin - 100 bottles of beer on the wall, 100 bottles of beer, take one down and pass it around, 99 bottles of beer on the wall...

You'll have to sing it 2-3 times before you get to ride Soarin though :rotfl:

We have a 6 & 2 yr. old so we read the map, plan the next thing to do, talk about where we've been, look for Hidden Mickeys, etc.

I would think that at 10 & 12 they'd be able to kinda keep themselves entertained. Or I guess I'm hoping at that age they can so I can look forward to not having to be a line entertainer when my two are older.
