We are Dvcers and head down two to three times a year. Have APs. My family (dad, mum, two sisters) are coming down in Dec with us for our vow renewal. Mum is not a big ride person and doesn't want to buy a pass. She says she'll, "Pay as she goes." I know she'll be heading to at least one park on each of the three days she is there for family meals alone. I think she should get a three day park hopper so she can enjoy all the Xmas decorations, shops, etc at the parks with flexibility. She has already said she wants to ride the teacups, see World Showcase and ride the Safari. That's already three gates. Should she get a pass and how do I convice a hard headed woman of such?:confused3

she will need a 3 day hopper. You need a ticket for every day you are entering a park (and if she'll be hopping she needs the hopper). If she is balking just tell her it's mandatory or something. LOL

I told her she needed a three day hopper. I don't think she has any idea what the place involves. Even if she doesn't go on one ride, which she will, she needs the flexibility to make it to family dinners, see the lights, etc. What am I going to do. She is driving me crazy!!!

You can buy a one-day ticket and then just add on days as you need them. A little more work in the morning but it should work for everybody. She can "pay as she goes" and still get all the access she needs.

Fabulous idea. Thanks:thumbsup2

Just make sure the one day ticket is a hopper if you plan on going to more than one park.

Honestly, it is such a pain to have to wait at the ticket booth each day to add to the ticket. I would tell her it is more economical to buy a 3 day hopper then a 1 day (point out the savings each day) and tell her since you have dinners planned for certain days in the parks, that you know she will use them.

I think most people who don't know how everything works get a bit confused over everything. Just clear up the confusion and tell her you would not ask her to spend the money if she didn't have to. (Either that, or just buy the 3 day pass for her).

I've told her that. My parents really balk at the idea of putting out over $200 each for passes. I don't think they get it at all. They were last there in 81 and obviously things have changed. I've asked them to trust their daughter (me) who has been there countless times (lost count at around 15), but they remain firm. Truthfully, I'm getting a bit worried about this trip. Dh says to just let them do as they please even if it means spending more money and having to wait in more lines. He is probably right.

Yes, if you are stressing about it, drop it. Give them a copy of your itenery with meeting times and places for dinner and then let them deal with the rest. Some things just aren't worrying over and since this should be a happy time for you, you should just let it go and not let them ruin your trip one way or another!

Silly question, since they were there so long ago. Do they realize that the passes are for admission, not just for activities?

Just buy them for them as a gift and thank them for coming and sharing this time with you. If they get mad and want to pay you back for them, let them but for the aggravation it is going to cause, just do it! :thumbsup2

Yes, this is what i was going to suggest.

I think that's a good question. If they really haven't been since 1981, then they've only used the old system. Didn't the pay for admission thing not come into play until 1982?:confused3

Like others, I think she thinks it's still the same as it must have been then. Where you have a book of tickets that you give to the ride attendant based on each individual thing you want to ride. So that's the place to start. Explain that t:laundy:hat doesn't exist anymore, now you get to do everything inside the park with just ONE admission.

editing to add...paying as you go nowadays would mean buying one day tickets each day...eek! expensive!

In 1981 there was only one park: MK. It was a pass system, rather than ticket books. At least it was Labor Day weekend--which was when I was there for the first time! *LOL*

WDW may have been accepting old tickets plus admission at that time--DLR did it for a number of years. We used to go in the evening, pay $2 admission (I think it eventually increased to about $5), then use the old A, B and C tickets that were left over from a gazillion visits over the years.

It sounds as though OP's parents still might be expecting one large park rather than four separate ones. Not sure.

Love the idea of purchasing the three-day passes as a gift! Saves a lot of stress for both parties! :)
