Elaine - What is an egg wash? Is it just brushing the pastry with egg whites?

I made a baked Brie for Christmas eve last year, that really went over big.

1 can of Pillsbury crescent rolls
1 round of Brie

Open the crescent rolls, and squish them together to make a solid sheet, big enough for the brie to fit into.

Fold up the dough around the brie, twisting it on top, kinda like a package. Egg wash, and bake until browned. Serve alongside veggies, crackers, or whatever. Looks very impressive......I also had a little dough left over and cut out holly leaves and berries, and attached to top with egg wash.

I also saw a recipe that you can add nuts, or raspberry jam before 'tying' it up.

I also make a similar recipe and it is yummy!!!! I put brown sugar and pecans on top of the brie before I fold it up and I brush the outside with melted butter instead of an egg wash. I've done the raspberry jam as well and if you want something less sweet and a little more savory, pesto sauce and sundried tomatoes work really well too. You'll need to bake it about 5 minutes longer than the time on the crescent roll can.

Our family standard for grazing foods on Christmas Eve include basic smoked sausage, sliced and microwaved to warm them with a little paprika sprinkled on top; a veggie tray with olives, and I'm looking to add a new one - a big bucket of wings. That way there is some substance to what we're eating but it isn't quite a meal. At the same time it won't feel like just a snack.

Okay don't laugh, but I don't think I've ever bought chili sauce before. What is it and where would I find it? Thanks!

Also grape jelly mixed with chili sauce and meatballs? Are you sure? Your not teasing me are you? ;) I'm trusting you!
Would this work with just the meatballs or do you have to add the hot dogs? Just curious.

I hope you decided to make this. I promise it is good. I had the same reaction about jelly and chili sauce mixed together but it was very good. You don't have to add the hotdogs, some do to add another meat into it. We found people ate more of the meatballs than the hotdogs.

Have a great family party. :Pinkbounc

BTW. sorry I didn't reply sooner. I have a habit on not subscribing to the threads I post too.
