Anyone have any fun tips for romantic spots to ask the DGF to become my DF and eventually my DW? (look, I'm catching on to the lingo! ...I think) I'm thinking something private... Im not really the "on the steps of the castle" type. Sooo... What do ya think?

The Chef's Table at Victoria and Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort. Certainly booked by now but you can check.

We decided to tie the knot after a day at Eurodisney (we'd been together for 10 years), 'was more like the whole day got us thinking we really wanted to be together forever. But we both remember a photo session in the castle as the tipping point.

do they still do the photo sessions at Poly or any other resort? You could do one of those and ask, still capturing the look on her face

I'm really debating buying MVMCP tickets. I swore I wasn't going to do it, but knowing we will be there and it's going on without me?? It's starting to make me sad...I might break in the 88 days ahead.

Sweet!! Welcome to the Dis and to our thread!!

Here is a page that has some nice ideas.

Other ones:

-Rose Garden (which is near the castle, but a little bit more private)
-Beach at Poly during Wishes (they pipe in the music)
-Carriage ride at POR
-Sleigh ride at WL

And here is one I saw in a trip report at Disneyland years ago. A guy had his gf do the sketch portrait. (When they do your sketch, you never get to see what the artist is doing until the big reveal at the end.)

My guess is that he must have arranged something with the artist just beforehand (probably leaving his gf in a shop somewhere or excusing himself to go to the bathroom so he could go chat with the artist.) So they show up to have the sketch done. The girl has no idea, but the artist is also drawing him on one knee with a ring in a box. The artist writes "Will you marry me" on the sketch. So when he did the big reveal, she was shocked and then saw the guy get down on his knee. A friend who was with them took some shots of it all. It was so darn sweet!

Thanks for the link!

I'm going to have to look into the sketch idea... I thought it would be cool to do something like that or to hold the ring up in a picture for one of the rides so when we get to the end I can tell her to look for our picture and then get on one knee.

To give you some background we both LOVE AK. So I have been thinking it would be nice to do it there. I know that the trails around the Tree of Life seem to be a popular spot and since we're going in December it gets dark earlier and the tree looks awesome lit up in the twilight hours.

I also thought it might be cool to do it on the Wild Africa Trek and surprise her at the end of one of the rope bridges. She would be distracted looking down at the alligators or something so I would have to go first and then wait at the end and get on one knee there.

Here's a few other ideas I had been thinking about:
-Wishes/illuminations cruise... Though this might be awkward proposing in front of the captain of the boat haha
-Something to do with Mini Golf. We have an intense (but fun) mini golf rivalry. Our first date was mini golfing and she kicked my butt, so we are constantly battling to see who is the champ.
-The vacation specialist I talked to when I booked my original res at Wilderness Lodge (we switched when the new offer came out) mentioned the Sleigh Ride too... So that's definitely on the list.
-Something on the boardwalk. I have late (9pm) dinner ADRs for the Flying Fish Cafe on the 11th... We could wander around down by the water afterwards when it should be fairly quiet and secluded.

My one last idea... Which may be tough to pull off... Was based on a review of the Dolphin Experience in The Seas at Epcot. The review talked about how they had a dolphin bring a ball to a little girl that said "happy birthday". Replace "happy birthday" with "marry me" and there's my idea haha. I would be a bit nervous a out where to hide the ring in the wetsuit so I don't know how practical this one is, but it seemed like it could be special if I can pull it off.

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions so far and keep em coming :D I'm loving this board already.

Thanks for sharing Kathy & Levenhopper!

Levenhopper -- I have to ask (but you don't have to answer) if your best friend is just a best friend, or more like 'my best friend who I hope to spend the rest of my life with' variety? ;) I picked up a vibe about the CRT ADR that made me want to ask if that relationship is going somewhere more serious :flower3:

That's a totally legitimate question. The short answer is we're just best friends, nothing more.

The long answer is that we have both crushed on each other at different points in our friendship, but for various reasons it didn't make sense to try anything more than friends. So now we are at this point where we are best friends, we really like where our friendship is right now, and nothing will get in the way of that. Could things change to more down the road? It's possible, but I don't see it happening.

Thanks for asking Suzie. I had been wondering this too. And thanks for answering, Jordan. :goodvibes

Welcome to the group!! I love the mini golf idea since it incorporates your first date and Disney. Also like the Boardwalk idea. One tip I read somewhere was to do it early in the trip so you can celebrate the engagement while you are there. And so you arent nervous and thinking about it the whole time.

Has anyone eaten at Grand Floridian Cafe? DH want to eat lunch at GF before MVMCP but I've never eaten there. Thoughts?

Ksromack-I love the pic of your kids and glad they are still so close. My brother is 13 years younger than me but we are really close.

Levenhopper-That pic is hilarious. I dont know how you could stand all that face paint. We've never seen Blue Man Group live, just things on tv, but I bet it is an awesome show.

You know, I was thinking that finding a quiet spot at AK (there are many) or even in one of the countries in Epcot (since there are all sorts of places to explore) would be nice.

Hey guys. I'm sorry if this question has been asked before. But I just started reading part #1. In 2007, my mom and I went from dec 13 to 19. Parts of it was hot, and parts of it, well we wanted to have our winter coats.

Are you guys brining boots and coats?

Boots, no. At least one pair of closed-toe shoes, yes. We are also bringing our coats. I expect it will be cold here in Virginia by December, so we'll have them on when we arrive at the airport. I would like to have lighter fleece hoodies packed, also. I won't make any packing decisions until the week before our trip, though.

I was there last December and it was quite warm during the days (80's) and the chilliest it got at night was about 58 degrees, so a fleece jacket was fine. That said, I plan to watch the weather forecast closely the week before, since December temperatures in Florida are known to vary.

Good question.

I'm from Chicago, so I can't imagine it would be anywhere near cold enough for me to put on shoes or a coat in Florida. Ha! Here's a rough draft of what I'll probably be bringing:

2 pairs of gym shoes
regular socks and knee-highs
tights
skirts
jeans
tank tops
cardigans
a hoodie
a hat and fingerless mitts (since I'll be coming from come cold weather and will have them with me anyway)

I think having a variety where could add or remove layers depending on what the weather looks like each day is the best bet.

My best advice is to dress like an onion. It can be quite warm during the day, but not at night. In early january kids might even appreciate a hat and mitts for some evenings, especially if they are not moving (like waiting for a parade). No boots. I like the colder nights, it is less crowdy and feels more like Xmas. A cold night is easier to deal with than a rainy day!

I brought our winter coats in 2010 when I saw the forecast. But I just couldn't bring myself to wear it. Not even on the morning it dipped down into the 20's.

What I did instead was to bring LOTS of layers. Long johns, turtleneck, t-shirts, a sweatshirt and a fleece jacket. Definitely used gloves, scarves and hats. And a blanket. Those are great to wrap up in, or to sit on when the concrete is oh so cold.

My lifesaver was the supply of chemical handwarmers I always bring when going in December. I've been 4 times in December and am thankful to only need them once. But I'll bring them again this year.

No boots. Just sneakers.

Absolutely! I fussed and fumed for weeks ahead of our 2010 trip about how crazy the hub was going to be the night we wanted to see the MSEP and Wishes. It's always like that on non-party nights. Turns out..... I could have worried a lot less! We had TONS of room! :lmao::rotfl:

I'm not to concerned about packing, yet. We are lucky to be driving so we'll have plenty of room for a variety of clothes. I'm sure a few of our under armour shirts and such will be on the list since they make great layer pieces. I may bring my uggs, but just cause they are comfy. Mostly I'll wear sneakers.

No way snowflake am I bring boots; boots are worn for snowman making, sledding and walking the dog in the middle of winter. Not for orlando, my feet would die of heat.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

boots?....ya, NO...there isnt real snow and the thought of it, well it can stay up north at home....we being from the cold north of Iowa, we tend to layer our clothes.....it can be 65 and my kids will be in shorts(usually cuz we just left the sub 0 weather)....we were there 2 yrs ago and there was a cold snap, we were fine in sweatshirts but also had our stretchy gloves just in case....we dont even bring our usual winter coats with us! when in doubt, layer!
