Part of the ship that you can get invited to see?

Just out of curiosity, what part of the ship are open for visit if invited by the right people? I understand kitchen, below deck are off limit, but are there backstage tours or deck visits that are legal to do if invited by a crew member? I assume the concierge folks have seen more?

There are reports of galley tours being offered on occasion, you can check at Guest Services. Anything else "behind the scenes" is generally off limits. I've seen some reports of theater tours here but don't recall the specifics. Engineering and the bridge are pretty much hard "no" unless you are a naval or merchant officer. Even then there are no guarantees.

It never even occurred to me to ask about seeing the bridge on Dream this summer. I wore Dinner Dress Blues for the optional dress up night and had a nice time talking with Captain Andy in the atrium after dinner, but it didn't entitle me to any other special treatment other than having most of the crew saying, "Good evening, sir" as they walked by. I would have actually been shocked if anyone had suggested an engine room tour.

I would imagine that if it were to be offered, it would probably be to those with engineer ratings. More likely to be offered a bridge tour if anything.

Two weeks ago I got a bridge tour from the staff captain and had an interview with the captain and in depth discussions with the watch officer and junior watch officer. Fascinating discussion, but the point is that I was speaking with the staff Captain about some details of navigation equipment, arrangements, watch officer qualifications and whatnot when he brought up that it would be best to continue the discussion on the bridge. Had a 2 hour meeting up there before I had to leave due to preps for putting to sea.

I remember years ago doing a bridge tour and a galley tours on the Magic. I think after September 11th they stopped allowing non cast members in restricted areas.

Okay I was wrong about this. We did a bridge tour in 2004.

After September 11 on the 7 day cruise they did galley tours with fresh cookies at the end. There was that you could get a reservation for a stage tour. Ylthe brought out some of the costumes. The cinderella dress was so detailed and very heavy. We did not go behind stage as it is against Disney policy but the did talk about what's there and how the stage scenes work.

We had a water leak in our room and the head of engineering had to come to are room at 3AM , so the next morning when they were working on our room we got to go to the engineering control room and few other places .

We were on the bridge via an invite, but curious to see if there are other places we could see. I am not a big boat person, but it's cool to see what the area looks like though. I personally am more fascinated with how the logistics work and where all the crew staircases are

I think a galley tour and back stage tour used to be a perk of being platinum. Now that there are so many platinum people, they put the kibosh on it.

Did a backstage tour of the WD Theatre on the Transatlantic on the Magic - it was listed in the Navigator and you had to sign up at the Port Adventures desk.

We were invited to the bridge of the Wonder but that was c. 2006 so I don't know if they do that any more. Somehow I made really great friends with one of the guest services folks and they invited us to come see the bridge.

Two or three years ago my husband and I were invited to tour the Engine Room on the Fantasy. It was amazing climbing down ladders to get there. So clean you could eat off the floors.

The invite was prompted by the Chief Engineer accidentally spilling a drink on my husband. He couldn't stop apologizing and we kept saying don't worry, it was not a big deal but when we got back to our stateroom later that night there was an invite. We met in one of the control rooms and he escorted us down to the engine room from there. Fascinating!!!

Backstage theatre tours used to be one of the perks for Platinum members. Galley tours used to be pretty frequent on the longer cruises.

Had a bridge tour on the Wonder back on the 2005 Panama Canal cruise. That was cool!!!

Wonder cruise on May 20-24/2007, DW dropped off a Bridge Tour request letter after we boarded. Evening before Castaway Cay we received a note asking that we meet for a tour of the bridge with Capt. Henry shortly before leaving CC. Our family group was escorted on to the Bridge to a welcome from Capt. Henry. Had some info provided, DFIL spoke with Capt. H. for a while and then as we pulled away from the dock Capt. Henry had me hit the horn button. Pretty cool.

The behind the scenes tours are always very interesting. I only wish the galley tour would be at the busiest times. When they are organized its normally at a very quiet time of the day. Would love to see the craziness...
