DAY 3 - Feb. 5, 2001
Yipee!!!! Today is the day for Cindy's breakfast. We rise very early and before JR is even awake, I run to the food court to fill the mugs with coffee and grab small breakfast snacks. I'd hoped to make it to the bus stop by 7 am but we finally made it by 7:15. Grammy was already groaning about the early hours! We were not disappointed though. MK was almost empty! We rode all the Fantasyland favorites and had several unexpected character interactions.
We took in as many rides as we could before making our way to the Castle. JR was so thrilled just to be in the waiting room with the Fairy godmother that I don't think he cared if we were going to eat or not. We had one of the last PS for that morning and we did have to wait quite a while. It was neat though.....after all the waiting children had seen the fairy godmother, most were called upstairs. We were waiting with 2 other families when the fairy godmother tells all 5 kids to come over and they would play a game. She kept them entertained with a Disney trivia game for several minutes. Finally, we were called upstairs. JR's eyes were bugging out when he caught sight of the diningroom and the princesses. That morning we saw Cinderella, Snow White, Belle and Prince Charming. Unbelievably, JR finished his first plate of pancakes and asked for more (I ate his bacon, but don't tell anyone)! He then proceeded to tell every character that he ate lots of pancakes. Grammy and I loved our breakfasts and even ordered more of the french toast stuff. I don't know if I'll try for a late seating again though. It was kind of weird to be one of only a couple of tables left at the end. Servers were already using the carpet sweepers and our server did seem to be rushing us a bit. Overall, a fabulous breakfast! I've got to get DH there at least once.
Stuffed to the gills we head to Adventure land for one more round of Jungle cruise and pirates. Here's where my plans fell apart. As we were leaving MK, we decided to head over to AK to catch Tarzan and then go back to the hotel for a nap. We get on the Monorail at MK and get off at Tickets and Trans. As we were heading to the AK bus, we decide that its too late and it would be better to nap first then go to AK. Well, there are no buses to ASMo from Ticket and Trans....CM at the info window tells us to go to MK. We're all tired and don't feel like back tracking, so we jump the bus to AK. When we arrive at AK we jump the bus to ASMo. Took a while but not too bad.
Back at the room we discover that the room has not been made up yet, although the day before I had left a note (with a tip) indicating that we would be returning for naps. Not a big problem, all we really needed was new towels and to get rid of some trash. I grab the overflowing trash bag and catch the housekeeper just down the corridor. Unfortunately, he does not speak English, so after lots of charades I get new towels and leave the trash. We all napped very comfortably.
Several hours later we awoke rested and refreshed. We jumped on a bus to AK and had several really cool character encounters just inside the main entrance. Lots of people were leaving for the day, so we slowly made our way against the flow. The wait for the safari wasn't bad, 10 min. maybe and it was great! We saw lots of critters, even had to stop while a giraffe munched a snack while standing in the road. JR was suitably impressed....although I don't really know if he could tell that these animals are real and the ones on the Jungle Cruise weren't. We rushed back toward Camp Minnie Mickey for the last showing of Tarzan......yup, you read that right. For some unexplained reason, I could have sworn that Tarzan was in Camp Minnie Mickey. Well, with only a few min. to spare we knew that we'd never make it to Dinoland so we said "Well, we'll see it later in the week"......and it never happened! I still don't think Grammy would have enjoyed it but maybe next trip.
We wandered around taking in the sites, along with "It tough to be a bug". This was the first time for JR and he loved it.....prob. because he refused to wear the 3D glasses. This refusal to wear the glasses continued for the whole week! Oh well, if we can enjoy a 3D show without him getting scared, leave those glasses off. We made our way to the Rainforest Café just around the time of the park closing. I had not planned on eating here after our last trip. It was ok last time, but nothing terribly special. For this evening I had planned on Fulton's....I really wanted the Crab and Lobster Experience!!!!!!!! Maybe next time. Our meal this evening was good. We were seated near a fountain and small pool of water...kept the kid busy for the whole meal. Both mom and I ordered the mixed grill thing with ribs, chicken, steak and shrimp. Good but not excellent, in fact my ribs were ice cold....kept thinking that I was going to get sick...but I didn't. JR got the kids pasta with the sauce on the side. It was at this meal that Grammy decided that JR was nutritionally deficient. His pasta came with a small side of shaved parmesan cheese. After a few bites of pasta, he discovered the cheese and proceeded to gobble the whole cup full. Bad as that was, he wanted more. Finally found our waiter, who was happy to bring us more cheese. Grammy did comment that kids who were deficient would sometimes crave weird things!
After our meal we jumped a bus to AS and then caught the next bus to Downtown Disney. We pretty much made a beeline to World of Disney. Although I really didn't need any more Disney clothes, it was still pretty cold and the one sweatshirt that I'd packed for me was looking kind of old....I found a beautiful WDW sweatshirt that was calling my name. Grammy and I shopped like pros! JR was perfectly content to sit and watch Disney videos and look at all the stuffed animals, so Grammy and I took turns running through the store. We managed to get souvenirs for everyone...DH (of course), my office, JR's daycare class and Grammy. We decided to lug the bag back with us, since we were headed straight home.....big bag, bigger mistake....needed 3 more hands. Since we'd skipped dessert at Rainforest, we decided that we'd really like hot fudge sundaes at Giardellis. Unfortunately, everyone in DD had the same idea and the line was out the door....oh well, back to ASMo. Luckily, I remembered that ASMo food court had ice cream. We stopped and Grammy and I split a banana split! JR was happy to be munching his popcorn from DD. I swear it seems like the only things the kid ate all week were pancakes, pasta and popcorn.
The return to our room was a surprise....it seems that after we left the room in the late afternoon, housekeeping had come back and made the bed and cleaned up. Grammy was really impressed but I joked that they didn't want to miss the tip....of course they found it and took it. Full and exhausted we tumbled into bed and slept very soundly. Both Grammy and I normally sleep on waterbeds, so any hotel bed seems rough for the first few days but ASMo beds were nice. Either that or we were incredibly tired.
