Wow, time really creeps up on you!

Its DD's birthday next week (Wednesday) so I need to get that sorted! We're are going to lunch at the American Girl store (honestly, I tried to deny all knowledge of that place and tell her it was just a vicious rumour but what with schools teaching them how to read and whatnot she was able to confirm it for herself HA!). She wanted to go on her actual birthday but her grandparents can't get the time off work what with Thanksgiving .... she is a real family girl and won't go without them. So, I'll have to book it for the Saturday after and think of something else to do her on birthday thats a bit special (but cost conservative cuz the AG shop is gonna take me for everything I got  ).

I can't believe she is going to be 12!

OMG. I TOTALLY feel your pain over the American Girl Doll store trip. We went on a weekend trip up to Chicago a few years ago with my little cousin (holy heck, just realized that trip was FIVE years ago - where does the time go ), ANYWAY, so we took her to the AGD store for lunch there. That place ended up taking me for over $100 for a new doll, and my Aunt was paying off her cc bill from that little excursion for MONTHS. That place is the racket of the century! Still, you're a great Mom to do something so cool for DD's birthday! And, at least it IS cheaper than the car my half-sister "had" to get her oldest daughter for her 16th birthday this past May :lmao:

Wow, sounds like the title of a bad country song! Amazes me how little regard for peoples' lives others have...

Haha! :rotfl2: That is not a cool boss, wow!

On the job hunting subject, most employers try not to hire permanent workers so close to the holidays. You know Christmas parties and bonus' etc. you received severance and you will get unemployment. You have nothing to worry about, all will be good.

You may want to keep the shopping on the down low, as that could make someone a little axious. :dance3:

Time for crafts! :woohoo:

You just plain have the BEST outlook possible given your situation. I'm sure you'll land on your feet!

I can't believe a new company just starting up in your area wouldn't need any admin help at all, so I'd imagine your friend probably won't have any trouble finding you a job, so I'd definitely wait that out until after the Disney trip. And if that doesn't work out, temp work is a great way to find a job and you get to feel out if the company is actually a good fit before you're stuck there forever. My half-sister started as a temp at the company she works for and now, 17 years later, she's still there and has been promoted several times!

And I'm sure hubby will come around. Men as a whole seem to have issues with blowing up at PEOPLE when they should be angry at the SITUATION.

Thanks!! I agree. They plan to start out with 100 people in production, so surely they will need more than just an HR manager and their other plants have all doubled within the first year or two.

Yeah, the shopping is done for sure! Lol. Glad I bought all those shirts when I did. :rotfl2:

17 days for us! :thumbsup2

We're actually having Winter-ish weather here today. We're in the high 40's today! That's winter weather for us south TX folks...

But it definitely brings on the Christmas holiday feeling...

For all you Sirius radio people - Christmas music is now playing on the holiday stations... :santa:

You know how winterish it is here? Suppose to be 78 degrees today, yep, that's winter! :beach:

So insurance adjuster is going to look at our car tomorrow :scared: Hopefully today we can actually talk to the insurance company and see if we can get reimursed for a rental. I am kinda stressed - we have it at the dealership and do not know where we will end up getting it fixed - the car is 3 months old and I want it done right - but I don't want to pay more than the adjuster gives us.... We've never had to collect on our insurance before - so this process is new - kinda odd though - when we purchased the car a few months ago we debated a higher deductible and decided against it - very glad we did!!

I did make these little invites for my girls. Absolut_Mandy is the DISigner all I did was print, cut and glue!

The DISigners are great :) I want to try and do something for the hoop dee doo revue if I have time on my own so we shall see....

LOVE the invites - they are TOOO cute!

As for the car, well, I've dealt with a LOT of car insurance claims (none of which have been from accidents I've caused - the car Gods just don't like me for some reason). What is likely to happen is this: with it being that young it's highly doubtful they'll total it. Which means the adjustor will probably give you the option of the company writing you a check for what they think the repairs should cost, or you should be able to just send the car to one of the insurance company's approved repair shops (which most likely includes the body shop at the dealer you bought the car from) and they'll take care of dealing with the shop and paying them directly. You MIGHT be able to get the repairs done cheaper and pocket some cash if you go with the insurance company writing you a check, but with the car being that new, I wouldn't mess with that. It's a hassle and who knows if the cheap repair person you find will actually do things "right". Whether the insurance company will pay for a rental depends on whether that option is included on your insurance policy (if you pull your policy up online it should tell you). If they don't, then once the car is at the body shop I'd ask them about a loaner or if they have and deals worked out with a local car rental place.

Same here. I only watched the parade since we won't be seeing MVMCP.
We're not going to MVMCP, either. It's a good thing, too, because we're over-scheduled with evening events as it is. Was there a special taping of the parade that you saw? I'd really like the link if you have it, it would be fun to watch over Thanksgiving when the kids are home.

Good morning all.

Back to the grind.

How was everyone's weekend?
Cold. I think I hold the thread record thus far at 8 degrees Fahrenheit. It's supposed to make it up into the 40's today, though. We'll see about that. Interestingly, in all my years living in the Rockies, we NEVER had a "named" storm before and this one was named Brutus.

Those are darling! That reminds me I need to get to work on my latest email (though they'll all be home by the time they receive it). I plan to feature the ADR's this time.

Not to make light of your situation, but when I was laboring, this is how I got laid off. We had a canteen truck come to the shop every weekday. And if you worked there long enough, you could buy stuff on account. 1 morning, the canteen truck guy goes "Ok, Sean. You owe $xx." I said sure but I was a little surprised. It was a Wed and settlement day was always on Fri. So I asked him why I had to settle that day. He said "Well, this is your last day. XXXXX told me that you were laid off."

I found out I was laid off from the canteen truck guy. I found out that the boss tends to take days off on lay-off days. On the plus side, he felt bad about breaking the news to me, that after I settled, he told me I could have whatever I want and he was going to put it on the boss' account.
That is so humorously despicable that it needs to be in a Dilbert strip.

This is the benefit of living out in the boonies (I'd have to get on a plane to go to an AG store)- there's not much in the way of impulse buying! My daughter outgrew her AG stuff but it was wonderful while she had it. Interestingly enough, the Barbies are still in a box in her closet. :) She's is 18 and in college but it doesn't look like the Barbies are going to be moving to Sunnyside Daycare any time soon.

We want to take it to the dealer. It's brand new and I hear VW's can be tricky. I hope that they are an authorized repair center. DH was going to speak to them today about that and the rental. Another reason we want to stick with the dealer - the service manager is a part time employee of my DH and it would be comforting to have someone keeping an eye on it too...

This isn't the march roll call? Oh jeez! ;)

Holy moly I checked out for almost the entire month of October. I just now saw that I won the contest from leaven hopper and tofubeast. And hadn't checked my Pm. Thank you guys so much! And thanks everyone for the congratulations!pixiedust:

Forgot to mention that when I left my house this morning it was only 18 degrees outside. Brrr! It's too early for weather like this.

Super Cute. I love the CM one. I've been on an invitation-making tear. Maybe I'll post them later.

So shaking my head. People constantly amaze me with their lack of courage. Unfortunately I know a lot of people with horrible lay off stories lately. Poor Dsis got fired last year from a bank after some money went missing. They agreed it was probably the teller (she was the manager) but fired her and the branch manager anyway for good measure ($200 was missing from a branch that handles half the LA Laker accounts--so a tiny amount compared to what goes through their hands every day). Then a few weeks later the branch manager got a text from one of the employees saying, "I wanted you fired so I could try for your job and told HR a bunch of lies. Ha Ha." People really amaze me.

Awesome! I'm in a music mood .... the house is empty and the cd player is BLARING through my surround sound system. Its like a club in here :cool1:

I'm gonna break open the coke & ice :woohoo:

Ok now I am feeling guilty. Just talked to DH again. He has agreed to not hit the panic button until the first of the year. Also agreed to go to Disney (still dependent on his job). His request was to choose ADRs at lower priced places so the tip isnt so high. I said I would cancel Ohana for sure. Goodbye bread pudding. The guilt part is that we are staying at Pop. Free dining is for counter service. I paid to upgrade to regular dining. So I know I could downgrade and get that $200 back, which would pay for breakfast and extra snacks or whatever. DH has no clue about this. He thinks free dining was the regular. That was a detail that never got clarified. :goodvibes. Crap. As I type this, I know I am going to switch it. I am keeping Le Cellier though. And maybe Sanaa. :rolleyes1

I keep thinking about making them, but I still haven't. Does someone want to make them for me? LOL. I'll pay for shipping and some extra for time and materials. Lol.

Actually, i made enough for two rooms. If my in-laws don't go (which seems increasingly likely) I'll send them to you. Just PM me your snail mail address and how many you need.
