I just wanted to thank everyone who has posted on other reports for the compliments. As I've said before I'm having so much fun doing this. Omi reads them too and then calls me and gives me her interpretation of what happened. I think her memory is faulty, though 'cause she is getting older.
Part 7: What Happens at Disney Stays at Disney
Cast of Characters:
Me: 35 year old major Disney fan. DH bought into DVC in 2002, so I now get to go at least once a year.
Omi: My mom. She is 59 and enjoys Disney (but not nearly as much as I do), but she was wiling to go to spend time with the grandkids.
Tater: DS Almost 5 years old (to be exact he is 59 months old this became important later on in the trip). Has been to Disney about 6 times. Knows exactly what he wants to do.
Princess Squidgy: DD 13 months old. This is her second Disney trip. Walks everywhere, but not independently. Has just begun to have major temper tantrums.
No alarms, no phone ringing, what a nice way to awaken at Disney. I roll out of bed and try to remember the number of the Disney bus that must have run over me last night. Im exhausted. We had decided that this was going to be our water park day, but after the marathon day at MK yesterday, thats probably not going to happen. The mind is willing, but the body has shut down and is rebelling at the thought of more walking and waiting. When I check the time, it is after 8:30am. I cant remember every sleeping in this late while at WDW. What amazes me is that the kids are still asleep. Finally, Tater starts to stir and Omi looks like she is awake, too. In a few minutes, we start to hear noises from behind the curtain, so Squidgy must be awake. After a quick weather check, it is still rainy. Not as bad, but definitely overcast. So far, that is four out of four days. Not sure who nicknamed Florida the sunshine state, but that couldnt be further from the truth.
Were leaving PO-R today to head for OKW for the rest of the trip. Overall, we have had an enjoyable experience here. After we got through the first day of trying to move all the luggage up to the second floor, everything went smoothly. Im no fool. This time I call bell services to come pick up the bags. Theyll store them and send them to OKW later this afternoon. I wont have to lift a finger and it is worth every penny. Im kind of disappointed that we didnt spend more time at the resort, but that is just not the way things worked out. Tater wanted to go the playground, but when we got there it was closed. Wed hoped to hit the pool, but just never had the time. Oh well, next visit, because Im definitely going to stay here again.
Im absolutely amazed at the mess two adults and two children can create in less than four days. It takes us almost an hour to pack. We cant wait to get to OKW so we can do some laundry. Its been hot and rainy and the dirty clothes well you can just imagine. An hour later, were packed and ready to go. Bell services are there within 15 minutes of the call. He takes all the big, heavy bags count them, there are seven, while we take things like the diaper bag, camera bag, toy bag, etc. Way too much luggage for our group and there was stuff we never took out of the car. Anyway, as were leaving, we see our bellman exiting the ELEVATOR with our bags. Yes, apparently there are elevators in AB, but they are not for use by out-of-shape, overweight, mid-30s mothers. They are only for cast members.
Were feeling a little hungry and I remember I can use the DDE card at the food court at PO-FQ. I also remember they have beignets. What do you think is the real reason we ate there for breakfast? Id never been to PO-FQ before, but I liked the layout. It was much smaller than PO-R. The best way I can describe it is that it had a more populated feel. That could be because we were so far away from everything at PO-R that no one else wanted to stay in building 34.
We head to the food court and Squidgy decided she wanted Fruit Loops. Well, we were hoping Tater might eat something nutritious, but since Squidge had Fruit Loops, he had to have Fruit Loops. At least he was drinking milk. Omi and I ordered 6 beignets to split. Then, we saw a piece of chocolate cake that looked really good, so we got a piece of that to split, too. They also had some awesome looking cheese danish and I hadnt had one on this trip yet, so we split one of those, too. I topped it off with orange juice and Omi had coffee. Now dont laugh, but if you really think about it, I had all major food groups represented on the tray and I only ate half so I wasnt that bad. Im on vacation and besides what happens at Disney stays at Disney (until you post on the Dis and then everyone knows). Just an aside here, the beignets were wonderful. They were made to order so they were hot when we got them. Covered in powdered sugar. Yummy!!!!! I will go back to PO-FQ just to get beignets every trip, even if we dont stay there. Now if they would only make the Monte Cristo sandwich from Blue Bayou at DL, it would be one of my favorite places to eat.
Now that our sweet tooth has been satisfied for a while, we decided to move on over to OKW. Im not optimistic our room will be ready, but it never hurts to check. Weve packed bathing suits so we can change by the pool and spend the afternoon there if we need to. Were just tired and want to rest. No parks today.
We get to OKW a little after noon and I had forgotten how much I like this resort. Its more like a community than a resort. It just seems friendlier than some of the other resorts. WL is our home resort, but Id be just as happy to stay at OKW well except maybe at Xmas, cause nobody beats WL for decorations.
There is a short line at check-in so Tater sits in the little chairs (again) and Omi wanders with Squidgy. After a brief wait, a very nice CM was ready to help me. She notes on my reservation I had requested a ground floor with a golf course view. Hmmmm I dont remember that, but obviously I was thinking ahead when I called seven months ago. I explain that we would love a golf course view, but our priority was ground floor. She wants to know if we have a building preference or if we will take a room that is available. We didnt have a whole lot of luck at PO-R, but lets give it a try and take first available. Luckily, there was a ground floor studio available and it has a golf course view. Of course it is in building 51 which is about as far away as you can get from the main pool, but it is ready so were not complaining.
We drive all the way back to building 51 and find out that the bus runs right by our building to turn around luckily we are heavy sleepers. We also find out that it is difficult to park on a curve. Not sure if the lines for the spaces werent straight or if they were wider in the front than in the back, but someones Sequoia took up two spaces the entire time he was there. Were the last studio on the right room 5110. When we go in we cant believe how much bigger it is than PO-R. It seems very spacious in comparison. We check out our golf course view, which was greatly overstated. There is a 1 bedroom next to us and their living room wall extends 8 10 feet from the left side of our patio, so we can partially see a green. We watched a couple of guys putt and I decided that live golf isnt much more interesting than golf on TV.
We quickly (well, relatively quickly) change and head down to the pool. I have not worn a bathing suit in two years and have not been looking forward to this. But, Ive realized that the bathing suit issue is my own and no one else really cares what I look like and if they do, they are too polite to say anything. Squidgy falls asleep in the van on the way to the pool. Its almost 2pm and she hasnt napped yet. She continues to sleep when we get her out and put her in the stroller. Tater is so excited to go swimming; he is bouncing up and down in the back seat. He cant wait to swim and go on the waterslide probably until he really sees it, though.
When we get there, I get sleeping Squidgy duty and Omi get to go in the pool first. Im looking forward to some quite reading time, but stop to get and adult beverage on my way. This is my first of the trip so I intend on enjoying it. It was a Midori colada and it was yummy. Ive settled under an umbrella by the kiddie pool, so I cant see Omi and Tater, but Im sure they are having fun. It sure is getting hot, though Ive finished my drink and am enjoying the book, but it has got to be about my time for pool duty. Now that the sun has finally come out, its hot and Im starting to sweat. I HATE to sweat. Just a nasty feeling. Finally they come back and I can go cool off. They were probably only gone about 20 minutes, but it felt a lot longer.
Tater hasnt ridden the slide yet, but he thinks he might want to. Hes afraid to go by himself, but I cant go with him. We walk to the top, just to check it out. A very nice father said he would watch Tater and help him ride if I wanted to wait at the bottom. Tater was cool with that and I was sent to the bottom. A note of caution if you are waiting at the bottom of the slide, stand well to the side. The right side is better than the left side. When ever someone comes down, you will get splashed, but when an adult sized rider comes down, its like a tidal wave. Finally, Tater comes down. He dunks under once and I grab him. He had so much fun, he, the nice man and the nice mans son go back to ride again. I wait at the bottom again. I never did ride the slide. After five or six trips, Tater has had enough sliding and he and I play in the pool for a few minutes.
When we go to check on Omi, Squidgy is just waking up. Omi gets ready to take Tater back to the big pool and I make the ultimate sacrifice for my daughter. I sit in the kiddie pool with her. Not only is the water over 80 degrees, there are little bugs floating in it. Also, there have been kids in it all day. I always put a little swimmie on her, but Im sure some kids have been diaperless eeewwww.
After a few minutes I take Squidgy over to the big pool, but she didnt like it. That was ok with me, though, cause its been a while since breakfast and we still have a bit of time before dinner. I head to the counter service place and order Conch Fritters and a coke. Im issued a blinky square and wait. In true Florida fashion, its starting to cloud up. Must be those afternoon thunderstorms rolling in. With that, lightening flashes and the pool is closed down. The fritters are ready so we head back to the room. Its been a good, low stress, quiet afternoon. We all needed the down time before the big push toward the end of vacation. In the coming days, were headed to AK, Sea World and a split day at Epcot and MGM
Next up: Slurping Jell-O through a Straw
