Part 11
April 28, 2005
The wake up call comes in at 7 am. No one answers it the first time. They call back 5 minutes later. Ok, were up this time. Exhaustion has set in. And so has dread. Weve passed the halfway mark of our vacation. Weve started paying attention again to the weather forecasts for the northeast. Its Thursday and well be flying home Sunday afternoon. So far, the weather back home is looking cold for our return. And Im groaning because those jeans are neatly folded back home. I have no long pants with me, just capris and shorts. Dont ever pack at midnight the night before you leave. It just doesnt work.
But back to Thursday. We drag our tired bodies out of bed. Adrenaline starts pumping through mine once my feet hit the floor, so Im moving faster than everyone else. I dress quickly, write a couple post cards, and head down to mail them while the lazies get ready. Were going to Epcot today. When I get back to the villa I go to grab my camera, which was a Christmas gift this year. In the process I knock it off the chair where some moron in my family (probably me) put it. It lands lens first on the ground. The lens flies out, and I realize the lens has broken. My stupidity amazes me, and Im in tears. Mom reassures me that it could happen to anyone, and promises well get doubles and I can have whatever pictures I want from her 9 rolls. I stop crying, get myself together, and realize, that at least I dont have to carry that heavy thing around today. My neck is thanking me the minute I walk out the door, even though Im still pretty upset. We head for the bus stop, talk to some people who want to know all about water bottle straps. Their 4 year old daughter is a cutie, and the wait for the bus (which we had just missed due to the camera catastrophe) passes quickly. A quick sidetrip to Fort Wilderness this time, and then its off to Epcot. We dont realize it yet, but this will be our last day in the parks this trip.
We get to Epcot and get through bag checks, ticket reading, etc. The picture taking starts. Mom was true to her word and took all the pictures I asked her to, and had me take some too. We got to see the character bus opening the park, which was a first for us. Then the mad dash to the attractions. We had planned on heading for Soarin, but the board said it was closed, so we changed directions and headed for Test Track. Grabbed a fast pass for later, and got in the stand by line. Walked through. Mom held the bags again. It wasnt time for our fast pass yet so we went shopping. Allison and stepdad tried out Mission: Space (neither will do that one again) while we shopped. While we were shopping we found out that Soarin was indeed open. Since our fast pass window had opened up, mom, carrying ten million bags hiked over to Soarin while we rode TT again. We met her at the Land, where we had a snack. Then to Living Seas, where we temporarily lost stepdad and Allison. We found them, though, looking at the dolphins, but since mom had gone outside to look for them, it greatly shortened our visit to LS. Then back to the Land to ride Soarin. Mom held the bags again while we tried it out. Two thumbs up. Soarin is my new favorite ride. When we got off we immediately grabbed more fastpasses for later and headed to Electric Umbrella Café for lunch (edible, but not great). After lunch, back to Soarin. Mom joined us this time. She loved it too.
Then on to World Showcase. By this time it was getting hot, so we decided we werent staying long. We saw the street performers in the UK (funny), went to Impressions de France (booooring), and then Laura and I hopped the boat across the lagoon, and headed for the monorail. We took the same route as the night before back to the Lodge. Mom, stepdad, and Allison followed not far behind. They watched the performers in France first, though. We were just too hot to stay for that.
