I'm heading on the Feb 14 Western voyage and have never been to Key West. Looking for a parrothead's view of how to spend my time on the island. How far is Margaritaville from the dock and what else should I must see with the limited time that afternoon.

Thanks and Fins Up.

Mike

You can walk to Margaritaville. And eat a Cheeseburger in Paradise.

You just know I had to jump in here:teeth: You can walk to Margaritaville but it is a little hike. Go to Capt. Tony's for a cool one, Hogs Breath for a Hog Snort, Find Two Friends bar and Patio restaurant for a blacked fish sandwich and Key lime pie or a small restaurant across from the Wreckers Museum (don't recall the name) for a great cuban sandwich. Take the Conch Train, pick up some sparklies at Columbian Emerals or Sun Lions Jewlery, Have a few more cool ones at Sloppy Joe's, eat coconut shrimp at Capt. Billy's, chase with a shot or two. Buy 25 T-shirts at any one of many souvenir shops. Find your way back to Mallory Square(be careful because they raise the curbs at 6pm) for the sunset show (It's where the weird turn Pro) and if you have enough time left find the clothing optional bar. Take lots of pictures so you can remember what a good time you had.

Parrothead365 - sounds like you have been to Key West a few times huh? this is Shirley, an ol' 4 generation conch - I couldn't have done it better myself - the restaurant you couldn't think of is Roof-Top and supposely they say they make the best Key Lime Pie on the island, but I don't think so tho it is close - I have offered everyone that has wanted the pamplets on Key West to contact me since I go "home" about every couple of months and update my goodies.
Anyhow just wanted to say thank you for saying neat stuff about Key West - only one disagreement - the tee-shirts shops are to be handled with lots of care - they will rip you off before you can blink your eyes twice - I know personally and I knew better, but they got me good - so I am very careful where I shop -
I remember when Two Friends Bar was a very "bad' place and no girls of ANY age were allowed passed Caroline Street toward Front Street - it was TABOO and it didn't take very long for news to drift to our families if we did - I can remember going in there about 10 years ago and I could swear I could feel my family members around me with threatings of tearing my butt up when I got home - I was so uncomfortable I had to leave, but I have since gone back and enjoy it - it is now a nice place to visit, sit down to eat and have a cold drink.
Anyhow another tidbit about Key West.
Much love
Always
Shirley

Shirley,
Yep we have been there a few times. I totally agree with you about the T-Shirts shops, I had a little tongue in cheek there. We made the mistake of hitting one after spending the afternoon in Sloppy Joe's, they got us pretty good too. The one thing I forgot to add was find a bar, any bar, and start a Conga Line:cool1:

Best place for REAL Key Lime pie is my house, but since that would kinda be impossible - hummmmm hard to say since there is very few places that make it the real way anymore - Rooftop has to be the 3rd best --I understand Blue Heaven at Bahama village has great pie but never been there to taste - if you are interested - let me know when you will be here and I will bake one for your group to share :D

Hey Parrothead - so they got you too huh? I went to my friend the mayor and complained and got a huge refund back on my credit card to the tune of $400.00 from the shop - they took an oriental couple to a tune of $1800.00 and they didn't realize it until they got back home ----it was in the paper about 6 months ago.

Anyhow everyone have a good time in my hometown, but be careful of the shirt shops and the panhandlers.
Always
Shirley

Green Parrot once was known as the Brown Derby - it changed ownership and name a number of years ago - I know all the history for it was in the middle of "latin quarters" and my grandmother lived 3 door down from it and this is where I was born - I have never ever been in there, but will have to go check it out - what is it like anymore?
