You'll be able to tell I'm a new DVCer by my question. We're going down June 5th but staying off property Saturday and Sunday (doing things outside of Disney). We check in to Saratoga Springs on Monday but were going to head to the park first thing in the morning. I was planning on driving to the park and then heading to the hotel late afternoon versus going by the hotel to drop off luggage and then head to the park. Can I just show my DVC card for parking at the park of will I have to go by the hotel and get the paper for my dashboard?

DVC members don't get free parking at the parks. You need an annual pass or the paper for your dash from the resort

A DVC card alone does not get you free parking, you have to have a resort parking permit. Do you have an AP? That has free parking. If you show them your reservation, they may let you go. Is it worth $7 to you not to check-in first? If so, I would take a chance.

If you want free parking, you'll have to go to the resort first thing and check-in. You won't get your room yet (most likely) but will get room keys and a parking pass for your car.

You don't need to unload luggage at all if you don't want.

Then go to the park (enjoy your parking pass and save parking fees). Then just go to the resort whenever you're ready. You can stop by the front desk again to see what room number you've got, or, even easier, just call from the park before you leave and they'll tell you the room you got, and then you can just drive straight there.
