Parking while visiting parks

I am planning on staying at AKL and over the past few years when I have stayed at a Disney resort, I commonly drive to another Disney resort to park and then go to the park. For example, park at the Polynesian, go to MK, dine at Ohana's then just drive back to my resort. Will this be possible in January? I have heard something about new restrictions for not parking at your specific resort and wondering if that will be applicable in January? Any input is greatly appreciated, even if you just tell me who would know. Thanks so much

Technically, long-term parking at a given resort is reserved for guests of that resort and you should not be able to park at a resort to visit a park if you are not staying at that resort. Visitors generally are allowed to park at a resort for up to three hours for dining, shopping, etc. If you are staying on site, you can park in the park lots for no additional charge.

It sounds like you have been extremely lucky, since parking at the resorts has always been reserved mostly for the people who stay at that resort. Unless you are shopping/eating at that resort, you are usually given a three hour pass.

I know where I stay at POR, it is not unusual to see security patrolling the parking and looking for people who come in for the premise of dining, use the water taxi to go over to DTD and stay there all day. People have been towed from time to time.

Since you stay on-site, you are already given free parking at the parks; why take up spaces at the resorts for people who are already staying there and have to park farther away.

Park at the parks and use transportation to go over to the resorts for dining or shopping.

I can see that now. I just sincerely thought that parking at any resort you wanted to and using their facilities (with the exception of Beach Club pool) was a perk of staying on-site. I never thought about a parking problem, feeling that Disney would have plenty of spaces. I usually attend at low occupancy times but still I do realize that any given resort can sell out. I am glad to have learned this today. Thanks all!

Last year I was trying to park at GF for a dining reservation and there were absolutely NO spaces in general parking. I think people were there for more than 3 hrs. Since I had an ADR I went to the Poly parking and took the monorail but I nearly missed my ADR with all the driving around. I hope Disney will enforce the 3 hr. rule. Some lots (BW and GF) are very difficult to park in even at "low occupancy".

Actually, with the exception of "sister" resorts, you can't use pools at resorts other than your own either.

I assure you that was not my intention and hitting the hot button was an unlucky shot in the dark. Completely innocent mistake. Well, I am glad I learned what not to do from the experts. Thanks all

You sound like my dh's aunt.....she has been going to WDW for as long as WDW has been there, but hasn't gone down nearly as often in recent years. When she used to go you were able to use any resort amenities you wanted, whether you stayed there or not. I tried explaining to her that parking at the Polynesian for the day at MK, then heading to the Polynesian pool for a quick dip and then back to MK was a big no-no. She didn't much care about the new rules. That drives me nutty.
In any case, you now have your answer. The pools are for the explicit use of those guests spending their nights at that particular resort. And long term parking, over 3 hrs., is also intended for those same guests. Non-resort guests taking up good parking spots at the Epcot and monorail resorts has been a recurring issue.
