I have heard that parking at downtown Disney is free, then take a bus to a resort and finally onto the park of your choice?

Has anyone done this. What is the earliest you can get to a park using this method? Saving $14 a day would help out a lot but I don't want to miss out too much on the park.

This is severely frowned upon, but if you want to try it give yourself at least an hour each way between the parking lot and the park entrance. 2 hours of your day may be worth the $14.

Yes, people do this, but as 2nd poster indicated, you'll be wasting LOTS of time. Personally, not worth it; spend the $14 for parking.

This is the exact reason that there is no longer direct transportation between DTD and the parks. Parking at DTD is fairly limited and when people park there for the entire day while they're at a park, it prevents people who want to visit DTD from finding a parking space. Don't do it.

Don't do this please! I'm not sure if a mod has stumbled upon this thread or not yet, but the DIS doesn't condone discussing methods of circumventing Disney policy.

well, you would have to take a bus from DTD to a resort and then to a park, as buses no longer run directly to the park for just this reason. If you are a resort guest you get free parking, which is one reason why we enjoy staying onsite.

I would think you would just park at the resort. Why add 40 minutes (at the least) to your trip? Just tell the gate agent at the resort you have dinner reservations.

Check out Downtown Disney hours. I think Downtown Disney opens later than the parks so buses returning to resorts wouldn't start running until later. You would have to take a bus to a resort, then catch a bus to a park. You would get to a park much faster by driving. Budget for parking costs and cut back somewhere else if needed.

How is it wrong to park at the resort you have dining ressies at?


On the funny side of buses at DTD-
just yesterday I was on a bus at DTD. A guy walked up to the bus and asked the driver where the buses for the parks were. The driver told him the buses from here only go to the resorts. The guy looked at him and said "Ok we will wait for the next bus" and walked away. I wonder if he is still waiting LOL

huh? What did I say that was so wrong?

As far as how to get in the parks for "free":
* Get a job at WDW. CMs can get in free on their off days (at least they used to be able to)
* Make friends with a CM. IIRC, CMs can get 'x' (don't remember the number) of people in with them. Don't know if that's per day/per week/month/quarter/year.
* Work at a company that Disney offers free passes to.
* Win a raffle?

As someone else mentioned, budget the $14 and park where you are supposed to. The buses at the resorts fill up fast enough with just the registered guests boarding them. Next thing we know, we're all going to have to show our room keys to get on the bus.

This is why you'll find just about every one on these boards recomends staying at a Disney resort.

Make your trip one to remenber!

Spend the extra $$$ stay at a Disney resort and get the full magical experience.

Just for the record, i have found that if i price staying offsite at $50 a night, plus a car rental for $30 a day, plus parking for $14 a day, its pretty much the same as one of the Value Resorts, with free Magical express, free bus transportation, and quiet possibly free dining.

I wish they would. Maybe then the buses wouldn't be so full.
