Parking shuttles...do you need to park?

I have read of people opting to walk 5 minutes from the Sheraton Park to the Woody lot, and taking the Disney shuttle instead of paying for ART.
Does anyone know if you need to park in the lots to access the shuttles?
Are the shuttles free? Trying to determine actual distance to do this?

Yes the Disney buses are free, and no you do not have to park or have a parking pass or permit to ride the Disney bus. Last year where I had stayed I was very close to the Toy Story Parking Lot, and it was great! It is a quick ride and fun.

Thanks for the info.

Although its been posted on other threads, just a reminder that it will probably take you longer to walk to the Toy Story parking lot then take the bus, then it will to walk from the Park Sheraton to the bag check at DLR. My DH easily beat me back to the hotel one afternoon, but I appreciated the air conditioned bus! - Suzanne
