Parking Pass

I assume you are referring to the AAA parking passes which offer a closer location for parking.

These passes are non-transferrable and are void if sold.

AAA has stated that these parking passes are not for sale nor are they transferrable. They are a perk for those who are AAA members, buying packages or tickets for WDW...not for the general public.
These passes do not provide free parking, merely closer parking..although sometimes those spots are taken if you arrive too late.
Many have reported that the current AAA parking passes are now dated, making it very hard to pass them along or worse yet, sell them.

This should be another one of the banned or sticky topics. The rule is clear, if people choose to violate the rule, so be it, but the conversation topic should not be encouraged on DIS.

I am a AAA member and noticed it on ebay. I didn't know exactly what it was. How can it be legal to sell them on ebay then?

It isn't legal to sell them since they are given to members that book a trip through AAA as a benefit and are free. Anyone that buys one is crazy since the person trying to sell it didn't pay for it. Also, our last pass from AAA had our name and dates printed on it. These passes are not for sale and are non-transferrable. Disney has also started cracking down on the miss use of these passes. When we used our we were checked at the entrance gate and there was an attendant standing at the parking lot entrance and they carefully checked our pass to make sure it was okay.

Here's the deal folks. AAA has very plainly stated that these parking passes are not for sale and are non-transferrable...period. I don't much care that someone is making copies, or simply using their old one, to sell on eBay. AA has plainly stated the rules.
From here on out....any such discussion will be closed. IF you want to find out what the deal is, or how to go about getting a parking pass from AAA, fine, that's okay. But we will no longer discuss buying them or having a friend of a friend give you theirs, or a 'swap' type thing.
It is against board guidelines to discuss ways around Disney policies...I am going to stretch that to include AAA policy.

To the moderators;

I too, asked a very similar question months ago (and got the same answers). Not out of any desire to circumvent any rules, but out of sheer ignorance. I see this question come up regularly. Obviously, there are a bunch of us non-AA Disney newbies who don't know what the AAA parking pass is about.

Is a warning about the AAA passes already included in a sticky? Or in a FAQ or some other equivalent? If not, might I politely suggest its inclusion?

I'll check with my local AAA. Thanks for filling me in. Can anyone tell me about paid parking in the lots...do you recommend that or taking the bus?

I think it might be a good idea to have a thread at the top called the FAQ thread - please read here first.

I think that where is says Popular transportation links isn't clear that FAQs would be in there.

There are so many stickys at the top of every board here on the DIS that I think it is easy for people to skip over them b/c they seem overwhelming!

I think the OP in this case was truly not in the know about the AAA passes and was asking about them. Goofy4tink gave a great answer but then everyone had to pile on about how she was trying to circumvent the rules - which is clear wasn't the case since she then contacted her AAA office to find out about them. Why do we always assume the worst of people? What is wrong with stating the facts without judgement?

Believe me when I say that nobody reads those stickies! Have any of you noticed that there is always some post about 'taking a towncar but sending luggage with DME' or 'can I check my bags at my resort if I'm on SW' or such??? Those questions, and many more, are answered in the stickies.
People are welcome to ask, but need to understand that there won't be any discussion.

I agree that people don't read the stickies!

What if there was an official answer though that eveyone knows to give without jumping on the poster. In this situation, we had a new poster who really was asking an innocent question. These could be in the FAQ and then there would be an easy answer to give or even to post - there is an FAQ thread at the top of the board that will answer your questions. I know this board thrives on no pixie dust but we could at least try to be helpful without attacking people. I should add - this thread wasn't really attacking the poster but it started to go in that direction and having a standard answer sure would stop it from escalating! I also could be crabby myself b/c my kids have been home sick all week and I am in a can't we all just get along mode ;)

The answer could easily be...

The AAA parking pass does not give free parking, it only gives access to a limited number of spots in each lot that are closer to front of the park - usually right behind handicap parking. The spots can fill up quickly and there is no guarantee that you will get a spot even if you have a pass.

The tickets are available from AAA and are non-transferable. To combat the problem of people selling them on ebay - there are reports that the passes are now dated. It is not a good idea to buy them on ebay. Contact your AAA office to see if they have them and how to get them - the rules tend to vary by office.

Since buying AAA passes is not allowed by AAA, we do not allow discussion of how to get the passes other than through AAA. If you have any other questions about the pass itself, then you can ask that.

I am confused on where you think someone attacked the OP, maybe the answers were direct and to the point, but I've re-read all the posts, and I don't see an attack anywhere.

I actually said this wasn't a thread that was particularly doing that but that it was heading that way...

Anytime someone asks a question and the response comes back that their question should not be allowed can be upsetting to a poster - particularly someone who is new and doesn't understand.

The OP doesn't know what the rules are and giving them a standard non accusing answer would be best - sometimes what one considers direct and to the point - others consider rude. I have been on both ends of the equation - getting that answer and giving it...I am not perfect in replies but I do try to at least explain everything to the OP.

Sounds good to me....anything like that is fair and should not cause anyone to feel they are being 'dumped on'.
