Parking DTD?

And before this goes down 'that' path, I'll put it out there....yes, you can park for free at DTD. If you are planning on heading to a WDW park though, you may find it difficult. There are no buses running from parks to DTD, or from DTD to parks. You would have to go to a resort and then to the park from there. Add to that, the fact that the buses to the resorts, from DTD, aren't very frequent in the early morning, until about 11am, and you find it hard to get to a park.

if you are going down "that path" ... when I stay off site, we park at the fantasia mini golf. The lot is huge and always empty. We then walk to the boat launch for swan and dolphin, or ride a bus from the swan lobby.

Maybe a 100 yard walk to disney transportation, and no $15 parking.

Thank you! I was not going down "that path" but I am sure others appreciate the info. We are doing a Universal/Sea World trip this time. We thought we would get a little Disney fix at DTD....because how do you explain to a 5 yr old that although we are going to Mickey's Airport (MCO), we are not going to Disney :confused3

I just wanted to add that on nights like Friday and Saturday the parking lot section for Downtown Disney Marketplace can get very crowded. However there are usually more spots available in the parking lot areas for Pleasure Island and West Side. Now if you are going sometime during the afternoon the parking lot for Marketplace might still be busy, however it's also easier when getting a spot.

Hi DSLRuser,

Where in the lot at Fantasia mini golf do you park? I looked at google maps and it looks like there's a parking lot next to some tennis courts. Is that what you were talking about? If so, where do you go from there to catch the transportation?

Thanks for your help and the tip. I appreciate it!

Glen

Anywhere in that lot. There is a side walk between the tennis courts and the fantasia golf club house that leads directly to the boat launch for the swan and dolphin. A 5 min walk. From there you can boat, or walk to epcot of the studios.

Or, turn right, go through the dolphin lobby, and catch a resort bus to anywhere else.

Yes, it may be a little time consuming, but it is a very pretty area just to site see, and $15 bucks is $15 bucks. It adds up.

I have done this for the last 10 years when staying off site. Even spoken to a cast member (guard). there is no issue parking there.

This is good info. I really appreciate it.

As was discussed on another thread, Disney has started policing this lot. If you do not head over to mini golf after parking, you MAY be told you have to move your car. That kind of thing happening is why you can no longer catch a bus from DTD to the parks. Too many people parking there to get around paying for parking. So while you may be able to park at mini golf for free and head to a park, you may not be able to. And either way, you will waste a heck of a lot of time to get out of paying for parking.:rolleyes1

Yes, they have started policing Fantasia Gardens, especially at busy times. The last three times we were there a CM was at the entrance and checked on why you were parking. Makes sense because it is a very small lot and people who o want to do the mini-golf should have that opportunity. Parking to go to Epcot or DHS really is disrespectful to those who want to play golf.
