Would we be able to park at DTD leave our rental car there and hop on the monorail to go to the parks everyday?

If I remember correctly, each additional hour costs $6, and the maximum daily parking fee is $30.00.

Are you coming from a long distance? It seems like a hassle to do that if you don't need to--just ride a shuttle from your hotel or park in the regular parking garage, which would be much cheaper in the long run (half the price)

That's what I remember too but I also thought i remembered that they charge you every 20 minutes so if you stay less than 20 minutes past your 3 hours you will pay $2. Maybe someone can confirm this but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Also, you get 5 hours free, instead of 3, if you get your parking validated at one of the DTD restaurants (has to be a full service restaurant).

You *can* but I wouldn't suggest it. You are better off just parking in the Mickey and Friends parking structure. I you want to take the monorail instead of going to the main entrance, you can, but it means more walking to get to the monorail entrance from either the parking garage or from the tram stop at the other end of DTD.

You are much more likely to get into the park quicker using the main entrance.

What is your objective?

Save money lol

Unless you're staying less than 3 hours, it certainly won't save you any money. I'd just take the shuttle from your hotel or park in the regular parking structure. If you purchase your tickets through AAA I think they include free parking, so you could save money that way if you want to drive.

I think GetAwayToday (or something like that) has a great deal on a week long ART pass if you're staying far enough for that, or just stay somewhere you can walk.

Here's the official wording on parking at DTD.

Downtown Disney District Parking
Parking is free for the first 3 hours in the Downtown Disney District parking lot. An additional 2 free hours can be added with validation at AMC Theatres or at select table-service dining restaurants. Each additional hour costs $6, charged in 20-minute increments. The maximum parking fee is $30.00.

Valet parking is available from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. for $6. The valet price is in addition to any parking fee, bringing the maximum fee with valet up to $36.

Guests with disabilities are eligible to park in the first row in the Downtown Disney District North Lot near the Rainforest Café and in the first aisle in the Simba Lot, near Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel.

With parking at DLR $15 if you park at DTD you can do it for a total of 5.5 hours for the same price (first 3 hours free, 2.5 x 6 = $15) after that you would be paying more than at the Mickey & Friends parking lot. If you do a sit down meal, or AMC theater, you could park for 7.5 hours for the same rate. However eating at a sit down restaurant would eat into your parks time. If you plan on spending more than 5.5 hours at DLR, I would park at the theme park parking lot and pay the $15. You would park at DTD and move it every 3 hours but that is just a big pain in the %#$&*#. ;)

If you are staying at a hotel with a free shuttle, that would of course be your cheapest option. Or if within walking distance, walk.
