Parking at Union Station?

Does anyone know how much it costs to park at Union Station? I'm going to the Pantages this weekend and am thinking about taking the Red Line in instead of driving in and hassling with parking.

I don't know if there is long-term parking at Union Station directly. I know that there is a lot there in the front, but don't know of the weekend rates. Could be ten dollars. But, I think with Olvera Street right there, you might not find weekend bargains. You may be just better off just driving directly to the Pantages. Where are you coming from? If you are going to Union Station, and don't want to deal with the Hollywood Freeway traffic, you can just take Sunset to Hollywood Blvd, and it probably will take you 15 to 20 minutes to get there. Plus, if you're seeing a show at the Pantages, you may run the risk of leaving the show and finding out that the Red Line stopped operating for the night (I really don't know what time they stop on the weekends).

Thanks!

I'm going to a matinee, and I got an email from Ticketmaster today saying that there is a protest rally scheduled in the area that day, and that they recommend taking the metro instead of driving in due to heavy crowds. I don't mind the freeway traffic, but I really don't want to hassle with driving around trying to find an empty spot in a parking lot and dealing with the crowds.

Well, if you are going to the matinee, then don't worry about the Red Line not running when you come out. You should be able to find cheap lots around Union Station then. If you don't mind walking, you ought to check out the rates at the lots around Chinatown. I know that during weekdays, they are $4 for the entire day.

BTW, as a word of caution, find out if the Red Line stop at the Pantages will be open during the protest. Sometimes MTA may have to close the station to avoid protestors "invading" the station. It may be they just close one side and keep the other exit open. But, I would check with MTA prior to going so you are not stuck going to the next station and walking.

There's no info about the protest on the LAPD, LA City or METRO websites. I think they all expect it to be a pretty small protest like most of them have been. Traffic is definitely going to be a major headache but weekends are especially bad anyway on the 101. As for the Red Line, it probably will be open and this is just from my experience with having to manuever away from the protests and the subway...the subway will be busy because most of the protestors will take the red line. The red line is right across the street from the Pantages and is the starting point of the protest.

This is what I found out at the Union Station website

http://www.texaseagle.com/stations/LAX.htm

Short/long term 300 spaces. On station grounds. Approx .50 per day. Attended lot.

Short/long term 500 spaces. East side of station. Approx. .00 per day. Attended lot.

Although, I read somewhere that someone was charged 50 cents for every 20 minutes. I will have to check with my neighbor who just took the train to SD last weekend. I don't know if they kept the car there or not.
