how does parking at the resort work?
when you enter the parking area at the resort, is there a guard you check in with? do they have a list of guests ( or what would you do if just going to the restaurant?)
when you check in, do they give you some kind of pass you have to leave in your car?
if you have more than one car coming in, do they have the passes for all cars?
what we want to do is have US( 2) check in & head to park ( with hotel keys) & kids will check in later parking at hotel & meeting us IN the park to grab hotel keys from us. do they just park ?

Parking at the RPR has changed slightly in the past year. The "guard house" when you enter is unmanned most times. After you enter you can turn right for the lobby or go straight past the lobby and make your first left into the main parking lot. There is a gate with a parking ticket dispenser like at an airport. Take the ticket and the gate will open - you will not need the ticket if staying at the hotel. When you check in make sure everyone gets a room key for FOTL. The room key will also open the exit gate by the guard house (thus no need for the ticket you got when you entered).

Any room key should open the exit gate.

So, if you are staying onsite and using the parking -- how do they charge it to your room? Via the room key? So, if you are stayiing overnight, but your "ride" is just staying for the day, when your ride leaves the parking and uses the room key to leave, will I just find one day's parking added to my room fee at checkout?

Or should I have my ride keep that parking ticket, and pay for parking on their way out? Is the rate cheaper if you have a hotel reservation?

The parking rate is $15 per night plus tax. When you check in they will ask if you need parking privileges. If you do, the parking fee will be added to your room bill and your room key will be activated to give you in and out privileges.

So I'm guessing you tell the front desk if you have more than one vehicle? Or do all your room keys activate gate?

yes i want to know too,,,if there are more than 1 car in your group that are staying in the same room.

Any one of your room keys will work the gate. 2 cars would mean you either have a lot of kids or more than 2 adults in the room, which means you would be paying extra. So they may lose a bit on the 2nd car (they have no way of knowing you have 2) but they make it up on the charge for more than 2 adults.

what!!! - they charge hotel guests to park their cars!!!????

And they don't charge hotel guests who don't have cars...unlike many hotels that just jack up their prices and hide the fees making everyone pay.

mmmm. I am not convinced that there are really that many hotels in the world that charge more money for their rooms just because they happen to have a car park?

There are lots of hotels that say that they have stuff for "free" like magical express, parking, transportation, etc. but charge way more for their rooms than they are worth. The deluxe resorts at Disney are priced way higher than Universal even if we add in the $15 parking charge. They just include everything and then tell you it is free.

I agree, most deluxe resorts and hotels have parking fees but some tell you it is free but their price is just higher. When we stayed at the Hilton on the Beach in Ft. Lauderdale there was a $20 per night fee to park and it was valet only. Both the Hilton and Marriott in Downtown Kansas City near P&L have a parking fee per night.

I would rather those hotels do what Universal and others are and only charge you if you have a car.
