We are staying at another Disney resort and are having a character breakfast "Lilo & Stitch" breakfast at polynesia resort. We are planning to park there for the breakfast. Would it safe to leave the car there while we visit the parks for a 1/2 day? Would it get towed?
Thanks

I've seen reports of cars being towed. If it's a busy time, you will be given a 3 hour parking permit.

just to let you know this topic has gotten heated before. Since you are new I don't want you to be frightened away from Disboards.....

Anywhoo...Generally, Poly parking is for resort guest and those that are using the resturants and shops.

Before I knew that it was looked down upon. I did do it in Sept (value season) and went to the park all day and my car was still there. So long story short is you can, it isn't thought of as a good idea on here, and I do not know what their policy is w/ towing and a peak season they maybe more strict.

Also just to let all you know I did park at poly on the suggestion of a CM at POP.

Welcome to the DIS !!!!
Parking at the Monorail resorts to go into the MK is not allowed. There are signs posted to this effect. You will be given a 3 hour parking pass to eat breakfast.
There is a definite risk that you will be towed.
You should move your car and park in the TTC lot located near the Polynesian Resort.
Have a Great Trip

You could also just park at the TTC. Depending on where you're directed to park, you could walk directly to the Polynesian from the TTC lot.

Or take the parking shuttle to the TTC and arrive at the Polynesian via the resort monorail. Fun way to travel even though it will be a short trip!

And I missed that you're new here:

While the TTC lot is close to the edge of the Polynesian resort, it's quite a hike from even the closest parking space to the main lodge where the restaurants are...probably a 15-20 minute walk depending on where you end at in the TTC lot.

if you really want to park at the Polynesian, you can pull up at the door of the main lodge, and have your car valet parked from there for about $12 (plus a couple $ tip when you pick it up.) when you pay to valet park, you can leave the car all day & evening for that rate - and no fear of towing. And you don't have any hiking to get from your car to the restaurant. When you're done eating, take the monorail to the MK...and when you're through with the park, ride the monorail back to the Poly, have them bring you the car and off you go with no parking lot hikes, no parking lot crowds. We've done this several times from both monorail resorts & Epcot resorts. The guys at valet parking say you can leave the car until well after the parks close, no additional charge.

Just curious......has anyone on DIS actually been towed after breaking the 3-hour rule?

I am not planning on breaking the rule, nor would I encourage it, but honestly I have never seen anyone get towed at the Contemporary or the Polynesian when I have been a guest there (and had trouble finding a space for our car) and yet I saw plenty of cars parked there without that resort's parking pass OR the 3 hour pass.

I haven't been towed myself, but I've seen tow trucks in the Poly lot on more than one occasion towing cars out of spaces.

catne, it would depend on where guests are directed to park that morning as I said. But when we've parked in the am at the MK lately, the lot (Goofy maybe?) is really not that far at all from the Polynesian. It would be easiest to head straight toward it. If you walk all the way to the TTC and then to the Polynesian, I agree with your 15-20 minutes estimate.

You could also take a bus from your resort to the MK, then monorail or boat over to the Polynesian. Then you don't have to worry about the car at all.

We saw tow trucks more than one day on our last stay at the Poly. However, I couldn't tell you just what they were towing cars for of course. But I'd take the WDW transportation from your resort to the TTC and then it's a nice walk. Hop on the monorail upstairs afterward and head to the MK.

I haven't been towed (because I won't break the rules), but DW and I have seen vehicles towed from both the Poly and Contemporary lots.

The resorts with direct access to parks (Polynesian, GF, CR, BW, YC/BC) all have signage up that states that parking is not provided for park access. What is so hard to understand? If you aren't staying at that resort, but are enjoying the facilities in some way, and then want to head to a park afterwards, then pay to valet park. I have asked at almost all of those resorts and been told that valet parking is fine if you want to head to a park...self parking is not. More than a few hours and it's for resort guests.
Have I been towed? No. But, I have seen tow trucks in the CR and Polynesian lots...on several occasions.
And if it's really busy, such as Christmas, July 4th, you may find that only resort guests are allowed to valet park!

Sorry, I'm new. I've never been before, I haven't seen the signs. I thought it would be ok to ask. :guilty:

Of course it is ok to ask!!! You can park there all day though if you use valet. It may very well be worth the $12 plus tip. We plan to do that at the Contemporary next month when we have an ADR for breakfast at Chef Mickey's and will then be going to Epcot.

Absolutely not directed at you....there just seem to be a ton of posters who come here and say...'Oh, well....I do that all the time and nothing has ever happened to my car!'
So...no problem with asking the question. It's just some of the answers I get nudgy about. Everyone has questions, even those who have been multiple times.
I think I may have to stop and thing before posting...this is the second or third time this week I've upset someone with my posts....sorry. Put brain in gear before letting fingers tromp across the keyboard!!!:thumbsup2
