If i drive to a resort to have a look around, do i have to pay to park there??? Do i have to pay to park at DTD??

You don't pay for parking at the resorts unless you use the valet parking and you don't pay for parking at Downtown disney or the waterparks just the 4 theme parks. :) Linda

is that a new rule?? Bc we always get rental cars and we get a pass when we check in at the guard gate saying we have ressies and they give us a parking pass for the length of stay and that would get us into free parking at all of the parks, dtd, and the water parks. We always would get a rental b/c we can leave when we want, get there quicker than the buses, and park somewhat close to walk or just take the tram to the front. We have never had to pay at the parks when staying on site, if you are off site some hotels have their own buses or you have to pay to park but if you stay on site it has been free..unless thats changed???

The OP asked about parking at resorts. The response said the only place there is a charge for parking is at theme parks (except valet parking at some resorts).

That does not apply to onsite guests. Onsite guests with a parking pass (which you should get at check-in) park for free at the theme parks. The OP did not mention whether or not they were staying onsite, but they also didn't ask about theme parks.

Anyone who is not staying onsite (unless they are AP holders) is charged for parking at the 4 theme parks (and they are only charged once per day; if they park hop they can use their receipt to park at another theme park).

Parking at the resorts is free, although if you are not staying there you will be limited to 3 hours. There is also valet parking available at the resorts for a fee.

Parking at Downtown Disney is free for anyone.

Parking at the theme parks is free if you are staying at a WDW resort, or $11 per day is you are not.

Guests staying onsite, and Guests with Annual Passes, do not pay to park at the four major theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Disney/MGM Studios.

Guests staying offsite pay (now) $11.00 to park at the same four parks.

Guests staying at resorts do not pay to park at resorts.

People visiting resorts (e.g. to dine or shop) also do not pay to park at the resorts, unless they want to have the Valet park their car in which case it costs $10 (likely to soon increase to $11.00) with certain rare exceptions, plus tip.

People visiting Downtown Disney, Pleasure Island, or Disney's West Side (or any combination) do not pay to park.

People visiting Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon do not pay to park.

None of this - except the rate change and the Valet charge - is new. It's been this way, if not all along, for a number of years.

At any rate, the OP asked about parking at the resorts, and the answer, again, is there is NO charge for this unless one chooses to Valet park.

Only the deluxe resorts (and not all of them) have valet parking, and not all of the resorts restrict visitor parking to 3 hours.

That usually occurs at monorail resorts or those within walking distance of a theme park, to prevent guests from circumventing the parking charge by leaving the car at a resort instead.

Basically, resort parking is for those using the amenities of that particular resort. So...if you park there, shop for a bit, or eat, and then head to a park, you are abusing the parking rule. If people did this on a regular basis, those resorts that are close to parks would have no parking to offer to their paying guests. Parking can be at a premium at these resorts...
Contemporary, because it is close to MK, so people park there and then walk to MK

Polynesian...same as CR, but they take the monorail

Boardwalk...walk to both MGM and Epcot
YC/BC..same as BW

Because it costs to park at the parks, people will try to get out of paying by parking at a nearby resort. It may also make leaving at the end of the day easier also. But, it is still not acceptable to park at any resort and then head to a park.

Parking at DTD is free, but there are no buses that go to the parks from there. Why? Because people abused the free parking there by parking for free and then heading to a park..avoiding that nasty old $8 to park.

All Disney resort guests can get a parking permit...it's good for the park and their own resort. It does not give them license to park all day at another resort. CAn you just imagine what the parking lot at the CR would be like if all those people with cars, staying onsite, decided to park there, and walk to MK rather than parking at the TTC or taking the bus??? No room very quickly!!!

If you have an ADR there you will be allowed to park for free, unless you decide to valet park because that you need to pay for.

YES! As stated above, you will be able to park for free. *If you had a ressie at O'Hana or Chef Mickey's, they would issue you a 3 hour parking pass. I know when we were visiting resorts with our rental car, we were just waived through when we visited CBR, ASMu, ASSp, ASMo, POP, and I think one other moderate.

Psst! Di! Over here! It's $11 now... bit of trivial information - in 1992, park parking cost $4 - an increase of 275% in fifteen years.
