Parking at Pittsburgh International Airport

Our flight is leaving very early in the morning, so we have decided to drive ourselves to the airport.

We have never done this before, so I had some questions:

Is it easier for DH to drop me at the gate and then go park in long term? How safe/secure is the long term parking lot? What is the cost for 8 days of parking?

Also, would it be easier to park in one of the lots off site and take their shuttle in? Something like "Charlie Browns" I think it is?

I know there are quite a few Pittsburgh dis'ers on here. I may just have to wait for them to wake up after a night of partying with the Super Bowl Champs!

We live about 45 mins-1hr from the airport and always stay over night near the airport, some hotels let you park there and shuttle you to and from airport..Super 8 is one of them. I would say park in extended term if you're going away for a week or so. If we park at airport, we stick together and all go park and just take the parking lot shuttle to the gates. Here is the site for rates:

HOW BOUT THEM STEELERS!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!

We have switched to parking at the airport. We used to use the Pittsburgh Indoor something lot (it has a roof over it, not really indoors), but it is quicker upon return if one of us retrieves the car while the other is waiting for the luggage. I have found the extended term lot to be very safe and have never felt scared walking out to get the car. I pay and wait on the approach road to the terminal until DH calls me to tell me they have all the luggage, then I just pull up and we load the car and go.

I usually drop them off with the luggage before I park when we arrive. They go into the terminal and wait for me.

If you do curbside check in have your husband show his photo id and then he can go park the car. I recommend just parking in the extended lot right at the airport. Not sure what the current price is for parking. There is a moving walkway up to the terminal and there is a bus that goes through the lot that can bring him up to the terminal. It may cost a little more but you can be on your way much sooner.

I used to do this all the time when I lived in Pittsburgh. PIT is a great airport to fly in/out of.

I think extended term is $6.75/day, and long term is $9/day. We just traveled for the weekend, and parked in the short term garage, $50 for 2 days and 5+ hours, so definetly don't park there if you are going to be gone for more than a couple days (the garage is nice, though, since your car is covered, and it is so quick to walk right into the terminal).

We love flying in and out of Pittsburgh. The airport is easy to get to, and easy to navigate inside. None of the gates are far from the central area, and there is a nice mixture of shops and restaurants.

We always use Charlie Browns off-site, they are cheap (around $5/day w/AAA, entertainment or on-line coupons) have a reward program wherein you get free parking & give excellent customer service.Always polite, helpful w/luggage & best of all, they come & get you right away no matter what time of day or night. They also clear the snow off your car & give your battery a boost if needed.

If only the rest of travel arrangements could be so smooth.

Keisha,

Did you call Charlie Browns when your flight got in to pick you up? Also, how is the security at their lot?

They ask that you wait until you secure all your luggage & then call on the courtesy phones. We didn't get in until near midnight last trip & they still had 2 shuttles running; usually picked up within 5 min. of calling...right down the road.

As for security, they're situated in a gully of sorts - would have to be a mt. goat to get down to where they store the cars unless you went right past the main office. We've never had any sort of problem. Good Luck.

I fly alot from PIT, mostly business. If the weather is bad or I have an early morning/late evening flight, I use the garage, $17 per day (on expense account ;) ). If the weather is OK and I have time, I use long term, $9.50 per day (although lately it's been hard to get a space except at the outer perimeter). I usually don't use extended term when I'm alone ($6.50 per day), it's hard to drag all my stuff on the bus when I return, plus I don't like being alone way out there. If I'm checking luggage, I curbside check first (assuming the airline has it, Air Tran doesn't) and then park the car.

We used Charlie Brown's on our last trip out of PIT.

It was easy to do and very fast. They had our car sitting up front all warmed up and all the snow was cleared off of it, when we arrived by their littel bus. They even helped us stuff way too much luggage in our car!
