Parking at Manhattan Cruise Terminal **UPDATED** WITH MY REVIEW

We parked a few times (hefty at $35 per day) but convenient. For our two different DCL cruises out of NYC last summer we got there at about 10:30 and there were still spots left. We also left on days that there were not many other ships in port. If there are many ships in port perhaps get there a bit earlier...but, on the other hand, other cruise ships do not disembark as quickly as DCL so there may less available spaces earlier as departing guests have not left the parking lot yet.

Suddenly parking at the Port Canaveral Terminal isn't so expensive. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I just got off the NCL Breakaway that leaves from NYC. We parked at the pier, expensive but very easy.

My one concern would be if the ship just arrived from somewhere else, say was in Caribean in the summer and repositioned to NYC for New England cruises. At the parking lot you are counting on the people getting off the ship leaving and giving up their spots which you take as you embark. If your ship didn't start in NYC there are going to be less people with cars parked at the dock.

For our cruise we got there around 11am and there were plenty of spaces but the lot was full by the time we departed.

I can't really help with answers to this question but wanted to say that I also wish Disney would take a few trips out of NYC. We are traveling the Dream out of PC in October this year. Mom & I did a 2 day trip to NYC with a side trip to visit my brother in PA. It would be so great to take the husbands with us and do a day or two in NYC and a 3-4 day Cruise. The opportunity to do that tempts me into looking at other cruise lines. Which would ya'll recommend out of NYC. I think our preference would be one that goes north towards Maine & Canada rather than south.

Carnival had 4 and 5 night sailings, and this month we are also taking Holland America -- but one way from Quebec to NYC. They do, however, have round trips from NYC and Boston.

See my review below, but I so loved driving to the port and getting in my own car immediately to leave without taxis and airport security or train crowds, that I'm willing to try cruises out of Miami, Baltimore, NYC again and Boston. Can you just tell I'm tired of the whole flying thing :rotfl:

In a word -- EASY. We took all the tips and information provided both on here and Cruise Critic and planned our drive to get us there by 10 a.m. (allowing time for pending and expected rush hour traffic).

However, what should have taken two hours took 1-1/2 hours because we hit NO traffic whatsoever except for five minutes of construction traffic near exit 8 on NJ Turnpike.

We left the house at 7:30 a.m. and took 295N to Trenton and then got on the NJ Turnpike. We thought we'd also hit rush hour traffic to Trenton, but did not. We arrived at the entrane to the Lincoln Tunnel by 9:00 a.m. -- an hour ahead of our intended schedule. We got through and to the terminal turn off from 12th Avenue (at 55th Street). THAT was the longest wait -- to make that left into the terminal parking through that lite. When the light would turn green, it would only allow three cars through before turning red again. Finally a NYC cop came over to direct cars through the red light to get the traffic flowing. We saw the line was backed all the way down 12th and blocking some intersections (poor timing set up for that light).

Once through, we went up the ramp to the first parking entrance as directed by signage. We paid (cash) and then were directed to go to the next lot for the Glory. Problem is, the Splendor was parked at the lot we paid, but when we went to the next lot found out it was for drop off of luggage only, which we were not doing. We were taking our small amount of luggage on with us. So the lot attendant directed back down the (one-way) ramp by waiving the traffic aside. There was hardly anyone there anyway, but we were incredibly grateful that he did that as we would have had to exit and go back to the street and start over in that long line. Anyway, we were in the lot and parking by 9:45 a.m -- and there were PLENTY of spots. [When we were leaving the lot this morning at 9 a.m. there were tons of spots already opened.]

A tip to those who parked and whose ship returned to a different pier: ASK. We actually were told that the Glory would return to the pier now occupied by the Splendor, so we could park there and just walk our luggage across the parking lot bridge to the Glory terminal. This is NOT a street level walk, but on top of the parking garage and was very easy and not strenuous at all. But at least when we returned, our car was at the correct lot. Next time we will ask and do the same thing if the ship is returning to another pier.

Except for the initial misdirection about parking lots, we found the whole process very easy. Considering that as we drove off in our car, we saw dozens of people standing across the street with all their luggage waiting to be picked up by those who went to other lots to get their cars. I'll park at the terminal and pay the extra $$ any time!

Of course, we feel very lucky about the timing and lack of traffic, but I don't expect the same luck next time and would still leave early giving us an extra hour.
