Those of you that took Disney last year from NYC, did anyone actually drive and park at the terminal? If so, how hard was it to get parking and what time did you get there? Anyone get there and get turned away (my biggest fear)?

AND -- from South Jersey -- 295N or NJ Turnpike?

Thanks.

We parked a few times (hefty at $35 per day) but convenient. For our two different DCL cruises out of NYC last summer we got there at about 10:30 and there were still spots left. We also left on days that there were not many other ships in port. If there are many ships in port perhaps get there a bit earlier...but, on the other hand, other cruise ships do not disembark as quickly as DCL so there may less available spaces earlier as departing guests have not left the parking lot yet.

Confusing I know!!!

Perhaps give them a call and see what time they suggest?

We drove to NY, spent 2 days there and then went to the port. We arrived probably about 11:00 am and had no trouble finding parking.

Hoping DCL will go back there in 2015!:thumbsup2

We drove from South Jersey (Gloucester County). You need to take the Turnpike. We go up 295 to 168 and get on the Tpk at Exit 3. We got stuck in bad traffic leading up to the tunnel and the usual NYC traffic. I think it took about 2.5 hours to get to the terminal. It was easy to park and just an elevator ride down to the terminal. I think we got there around 11.

I sure wish they were sailing out of NYC again - but so far, nothing is planned. We loved our Canadian cruise last September!

Just pitiful, but this is the FIRST time we are taking a cruise (after 12 of them) that we are driving to the port and don't have to fly. I could get used to this -- it was awesome packing last night without worrying what will and won't go through security at the airport :rotfl:

Have a great cruise....which ship and itinerary are you on? My parents are on the Breakaway on Sept 8th out of NYC. My friends go on it this weekend.

it'll cost as much as the cruise....surf the internet and look for some decent parking coupons in the area...better off taking a train then cab...

Thanks. We're sailing on the Carnival Glory. Never been on Carnival, so this is another check off the cruise list. I'm excited just to get away for four days :thumbsup2

I did a ton of research and while there are cheaper lots ($20 instead of $35 a day was the cheapest I found), they still require cab rides to and fro and with our physical problems, parking where we can just take an elevator down to the terminal and not worry with luggage, cabs and possibly crossing streets is well worth the extra 40+ dollars for the four days. If it was a longer cruise, I would have taken the train ;)

I have been on the Carnival Glory twice out of NYC to Canada. I loved the ship. We drove from my sister's house in PA both times with lots of luggage including some strapped to the top as there were eight of us. We had no trouble with parking at the terminal. The lots are right there and it was relatively easy.

Thanks so much. What time did you arrive?

RE: the ship -- did you do anytime dining or set dining? We're also looking forward to trying the taco place and the burger one. Were the adult pool and areas crowded?

I can't remember the exact times as we have done other cruises from NYC and Bayonne, but we also leave from my brother's house in Flemington sometimes and take some sort of service. We always like to get to the port early so we usually try to arrive sometime in the 11:00 hour.

We have only done set dining on Carnival as that is our preference. I am not into specialty restaurants no matter what cruise I do. I am a big fan of a chocolate dessert they offer all the time in the dining room. It is my favorite cruise dessert besides Mickey ice cream bars. In regards to your other question, we went to Canada so we didn't go in the pools, but my niece and I found a nice quiet area to lay out on deck and relax. We never had trouble getting chairs.

Lol. We didn't notice, but I never pay attention to that anyway. The days were nice but not hot so might not have been as crowded for that reason. At nighttime, we were wearing sweats and jackets and got blankets on deck to watch the movie on the outdoor movie screen.

Yikes -- what month did you sail? Now I'm thinking I didn't pack enough warm stuff!

Both were at the end of June. We were in shorts during the day, but at night it got cool on deck. If we had stayed indoors on the ship we probably would have never noticed but we enjoyed the outdoor movies at night. Instead of a towel station set up for the movies, a blanket station was set up. Since we had done the same itinerary twice, we knew to pack something to wear for the movies. I had both jeans and warm sweatpants. I could have worn them during the day if it had been cooler when we went.

We did and had no problem getting a spot at all and it was a great super convenient location.

We arrived about 10:30.

As others have said, not many other ships in port when DCL was in port.

I just loved this location and port for DCL!!! They have to come back!!!!!

PLEASE!!!!! :yay:

Thank you all so much for the incredible amount of information! Very helpful indeed.

Got there around 11-ish and there was plenty of parking available. The only problem was we returned to a different pier than we left from...and they didn't bother to announce that. After wandering around the parking deck thinking "I'm sure I was right here in this section" realization dawned that it was a different pier and there was a need to schlep all the luggage over to the next pier. I was traveling solo so it wasn't like I could send one person to retrieve the car while everyone else waited with the luggage.

Oh, THAT sucks. I didn't know they could return to a different pier than where we parked :sad2: Oh well, it's not like we'll be time limited to catch a train or something. Thanks.

Edited to add: Just called and Carnival said it happens, but very rarely. They don't expect it to happen on this cruise (fingers crossed).
